What is the current policy for using a Dish in my Motorhome? I currently have two receivers I'm using at home, a 625 DVR and a 301. I also have a dormant 501 PVR and plan to send back the 301 and activate the 501. The 501 will be used in the basement and when I'm traveling in the MH I would like to take it with me.

What issues will I find when I call Dish? Are they still requiring an RV waiver or is that just necessary to get the distant network package?

Is it preferable not to mention the Motorhome use when I active the 501?

I have an old 501 that I take in my motorhome and as best that I can remember I had to prove that I owned a motorhome and use it. It has never been a problem and, of course, it is not required to have a phone line connected. I do bring it in from time to time to avoid Dish deactivating the unit, This happens when it is not used for some time. A phone call to Dish will reactive it (no charge).
My guest is you will be better off telling Dish that it is for the MH and not mention that you use in inside also.

Is it preferable not to mention the Motorhome use when I active the 501?DISH no longer offers a distant network package. If you would like to receive distant networks on your DISH equipment you can contact NPS (All American Distants). Whatever waiver process you go through with them will not affect your DISH Network programming (you don't even need to be a DISH customer to subscribe to distants via NPS).

Per DISH policy, you need a separate account to place a receiver in your motorhome. You should be able to deactivate the 301 (and return it if leased) and activate your 501 for use in your home. If you tell DISH about the motorhome they will want you to set up a separate "mobile" account.

We don't discuss how to violate DISH's (or DirecTV's) policies on this board ... so thus ends my advice on the situation.

So I deactivate my home account then activate the motorhome account when I travel?
That does not make sense to me.

Not saying to deactivate your home account. Just that you would need 2 accounts (1 for your home and 1 for you Motorhome).

Accounts can be put on hold for 5 dollars a month or something like that when you will be gone for extended periods. Customer service could tell you more. You should keep one or the other on hold whenever you need. Also, Dish also offers a prepaid receiver, maybe a good option for a mobile home.

I recall 8 or 9 years ago Dish (& DTV) has programs that were RV friendly if you did the RV waiver. You could just take the home receiver with you when you traveled. What happened?

It's the rules - two separate locations.

Well, Bald Eagle it is very possible that Directv still has these programs. When E* lost the lawsuit in December of 06 they were barred from giving any waiver for any reason even RV waivers. Maybe you can check over on the Directv boards and ask them how they do it now.

I wouldn't even mention motor home to Dish. I carried a 501 in my camper for years, Dish knew nothing about it. I had two recievers in my home and took one with me when I wanted to. Just hook it up to to a phone line every month or so, so it will show activity. If you subscribe to locals and travel very far from home you will drive out of spot beam and lose locals.

Well, Bald Eagle it is very possible that Directv still has these programs. When E* lost the lawsuit in December of 06 they were barred from giving any waiver for any reason even RV waivers. Maybe you can check over on the Directv boards and ask them how they do it now.It isn't an issue of waivers for DISH Network ... as of December 2006 they cannot offer distant broadcast network channels at all ... waivered, white area, whatever. You could pay DISH $1mil per day and they cannot, by court order supported by law, deliver distants.

NPS (All American Direct) can as they are a separately operated company that does not have a court order against them (although broadcast groups are trying to shut down NPS as well ... NPS is ahead in that battle ... see the main thread for more). If you want NPS distants on a receiver call them up and subscribe (going through NPS' qualification and waiver process).

So forget waivers ... put them totally out of your mind. They don't apply to DISH Network service at all. What does apply is DISH's business rules. Please note, these are DISH's rules ... don't look for too much logic.

In the past, DISH had considered an RV receiver as part of a residential account. One could have a receiver on the home account that was used in an RV. About two or three years ago the enforcement changed. Now they consider an RV to be a second home ... and, per the terms of service, require a separate account for a separate home.

So IF you tell DISH Network that you will be using one of your home receivers in an RV (as you have told us here) you should get the response you are getting here ... you will need a second account.

If you would have presented the question as a simple "can I remove a 301 and replace it with a 501 on my residential account" the answer is simple ... yes. So go back up to your original request ... the receiver swap you want to do is trivial ... do it (if you wish). But don't mention the RV. That is just asking for trouble.

You can move one of your receivers temporarily from your house to your RV and it will work fine. If you have locals, you will lose them once you are out of the spotbeam. RV Waivers are only required if you want to receive distant networks. There should be no need to play around with your account.
