My new PVR721 won't download the initial software load through the new quad LNBF I installed. After several calls to Dish advanced tech support, they told me to reinstall the old twin LNBF, and hook both leads to the 721. Or take the receiver to a satellite dealer and hook it to their system. That seems like a lot of work.

I have a 4900 receiver also hooked up to the quad. In another thread someone said to disconnect the 4900, then try to reinstall the 721. Has anyone had any luck with this method?

I assume you did a check switch before downloading the software??

Yes, did a switch test. The switch matrices for the two feeds were identical as is required. We also reset the PVR721 and did a hard reboot twice. Still no software.

OK, spent most of Friday afternoon on the phone with tech support. I replaced the Quad LNBF with the old twin, still no download. Advanced tech support tried all their known tricks, to no avail. Finally they declared my PVR721 was "dead" and are sending me a new one.

It will be here Wednesday. Hope the weather is warmer for my trip back up on the roof to reinstall the Quad!

is that a dish pro Quad LNB or a legacy LNB

The new one is a legacy Quad LNBF. My understanding is the newer DishPro LNBF won't work with my old 4900 receiver.

DishNetwork finally gave in on Friday and sent me a new receiver by Wednesday. I installed over the weekend. The new 721 immediately started downloading version L1.09 of the software through my old twin LNBF. After I was sure the 721 would work, I swapped the twin for the new quad LNBF and repeated the switch test.

Everything seems to be working OK now after some initial strangeness. But that is for another post . . .
