How can I add a new hd reciever to my bedroom tv and not pay a monthly fee to directv. I see that they charge 100 for the privledge of renting the box. I allready am doing that on an hr20.

You may be able to get a deal on the up front price depending on your history with DirecTV but there is no way to not pay the monthly fee.

Just need to call DirecTV and see if they will offer you a deal. There is no guarantee that you will get one but you can try.

You call and ask.
Deals are based on your history with DirecTV.
Also it is very very rare for them to waive the mirroring fee

I called no discount. I think it is bs:mad:
I agree, having to pay for the unit AND a monthly lease fee seems like BS.
Either make me pay for it upfront or give me the hardware free and charge me monthly.
I realize D* is a business, and needs to turn a profit, but this has always seemed like double dipping to me.

Why is it double dipping when it cost x dollars to make, upfrount cost (sell ) it to you (X - Y) "SELL IT AT A LOSS" and not expect to get the rest of the money back.

It's not BS if people pay it. It's called capitalism. If people stop paying it (i.e., move to another service or none at all) then they'll realize they can't realistically sustain earnings growth rate with that type of business model.

Well thay emailed back with a special phone number and not only are they giving the reciever for free they are waiving the 10 a month hd acess for six months as well as throwing in five more hd chanells at no charge. You cant tell me thay arent making enough money all I had to do was ask (twice):D

Why?? If you are getting a product or service you have to pay for it. If they gave everything away for free then there wouldn't be a company here to provide the service.
There is no way to get around and not pay the mirroring fee per receiver. Cable is the same way. If you have a digital box you have to pay a mirroring fee on that also.

If you can get free stuff, more power to you. I was responding to your complaint in the thread's title and that you mentioned in your posts, that you didn't want to pay the mirror fee.

Why dosent Direct call it a mirroring fee? They refer to it as a "lease" fee. It kind of reminds me of the leasing fee the phone companys charged years back where they gave you the phone and you rented it forever thereby paying hundreds or thousands of dollors for a 49.00 phone.

As long as I can remember it has always been called a mirroring fee. $4.99 per month per receiver. I never heard of the lease fee.

Because that is how they are identifing to you the customer, that the box is a lease and not owned.

Since the start of the leasing program, the renamed the mirroring fee, to lease fee... to signify that particular unit is leased not owned

Go to Directv.com and click on new equipment and select a reciever. The page comes up with you new monthly payment and a "lease fee" is included in that no mention of mirroring fee just Lease fee.

Oh, ok. I will have to go home and look at my bill. I just glance over it and never paid that close of attention to the wording in a while. :)
