Or is this exclusive to DirecTV through the 2003 season.

I'm pretty sure they can get it if they wish too.

The way I understand it, DirecTV has exclusive DBS rights to MLB EI until the end of this coming season. That's how Indemand can get EI for digital cable. MLB EI won't be on E* this season unless something in the contracts change in the next few weeks.
Correction Steve...it's EI (Extra Innings).

Might Baseball require them to carry YES?

Well he would have to at least carry the Yankees feed for MLB EI. I can't imagine him doing that and not giving the subs a crack at it... Or can it...

Disappointing news, I honestly thought prior to this Dish had a chance to get the MLB EI.......guess this confirms it.
I don't think I really want to go to the hassle of selling my Dish Network equipment just for this, tempting though. :)
Maybe this is a reason to sub to the superstations now.

I agree it doesn't look good, but I thought I read where NHL CI signed an exclusive deal with Directv not too long ago, but it ended up on Dish. Maybe some deals were made when they were trying to merge.

You can always try assembling a "poor man's" mlb package:
Here's mine:
Superstations; WPIX, WSBK:
Mets(50 games), Red Sox (26 games)
WGN; TBS:
Cubs (50 games),White Sox, Braves
Distant Locals:
WCBS:
Yankees (20 games)
Turner South:
Braves
Fox Sports South:
Braves
Fox Network, Saturday "Game of the Week." With "distant locals a double-
header every Saturday!
ESPN: Wednesdays, holidays and
Sunday night games.
E* Sportspak:
MLB blackouts lift after 3 hours, great
for rain delays, long or extra inning
games. Last season I saw at least a portion
of one "out of market" game every night.
The downside:
No Dodgers on FSW 2 (only available
in LA metro). No Phillies.
Rockies are gone from KWGN.

The link at the top of the thread didn't work for me this evening. But this one did:
http://www.hughes.com/ir/pr/01_05_21_MLB.asp
Dated May 21, 2001, it says "The extension of the current rights agreement provides DIRECTV with exclusive mini-dish rights to the games for the 2001, 2002 and 2003 MLB regular seasons."
I fired off an email to Kathleen Fineout, who was a contact on that press release and is currently listed as "Manager, Properties & International" on the MLB site. I'll let y'all know if I hear anything.

BTW, you could add distant CBS station KCAL to the poor man's package. Mike reports in another thread that they'll carry 42 Angels games.
With all the sports packages, distant locals, and superstations, this shouldn't be the "poor man's" package -- it should be the "Dish man's" package, right?

I wish...E* does not consider KCAL
a part of the "Distant Locals."

Since when is KCAL, CBS?

D'oh! I went to the KCAL site and saw the CBS eye at the bottom of the left column. Now I look again and I see that it had something to do with "partnerships," like with KCBS.
My bad. Sorry, everybody!
