View Full Version : To Do List ignoring my "Keep at Most" settings?

Just got my HR-21 a week ago. I'm having issues with it apparently ignoring my "Keep at Most" settings.

For example - I've set-up a SeriesLink for "How It's Made" on 278 DSCHD. It's for my kids & I only want it to keep one episode & only record a new episode when the previously recorded one has been viewed & deleted. So, I set it up as:

Episode Type: Both
Keep at Most: 1 Episode
Keep Until: I Delete
Start: On-time
Stop: On-time

When I go to the show in the Prioritizer, it says "42 Episode(s)" and the To Do List shows it set-up to record tons of episodes in the coming week.

I set this up a few days ago, so it isn't a case of just not giving it enough time. It's doing the same thing on every SeriesLink I set-up, which makes me think that the large numbers listed in Prioritizer & the To Do List are ones that would be recorded if I had it set-up to record everything, NOT what it will actually record (which seems weird to me).

Is this normal?

Normal? Unfortunatly yes. Most of us consider this a BUG, a big hairy BUG. It would be great if they would fix this BUG, but it would be just as good if they would implement the HR20/21 wish list item that covers series links. Please vote on the wish list if you haven't already, and visit the thread in my sig for more discussion of this HORRIBLE BUG!

Thanks. This is really bad. I'd have to concur with another post in one of these threads on this bug - coming from TiVo I really don't miss anything & have been overly pleased with the HR-21, EXCEPT for this. Really bad logic.

It is not a bug... and it works as designed.

The DVR+ systems, do not process the "Keep At Most" and Keep until I delete... the same way TiVo does.

The main factor is Keep Until I delete, it is only in relation to hard drive space.

You told the unit:
Episode Type: Both
Keep at Most: 1 Episode
Keep Until: I Delete
Start: On-time
Stop: On-time

So you told it to
1) Record any episode that you fine (Episode Type: Both)
2) Only Keep one (Keep At Most: 1)
3) Don't Erase It: Keep Until I Delete

Tivo will stop recording after one episode in this scenerio.
Violating #1

On the DVR+ systems...
#3 only replies to automatic deletes, with regards to hard drive space.

While you might feel it is bad logic...
Others may think TiVo's logic is bad logic...

There some wish lists requests, that will give some more options... so you can use it in either fashion...

Such as an option, on what to do when you reach your KEEP limit (do I delete the oldest and record the new one or do I stop recording)

I love this forum. I would have never known that the DVR+ did this w/o reading this forum.

But, as a programmer, the phrase working as designed makes me laugh. I couldn't tell you how many times I've heard that phrase describe something that wasn't working correctly!!

Personally, I hope the wish list option gets implemented, because I like Tivo's design/logic over the DVR + logic in this regard.

For those not familiar with the HR2x Wish List, here is what we've asked for re: recording options:

SERIES LINK setup options: RECORD: [First Run/Repeat/Both/All with Duplicates]; KEEP AT MOST: [1/2/3/4/5/10/ALL]; WHEN LIMIT REACHED: [Delete Oldest/Stop Recording]; AUTODELETE WHEN DISK FULL?: [Y/N]

If you haven't already let DirecTV know how you feel about this and other requests on the list, please do so here (http://www.sizethis.com/index.php?module=survey&survey=28). TIA. /steve

Thanks for posting the Wish List link Steve. It sure would be nice to know they are working on this bug, it's been high on the wish list for quite some time now.
