You don't know how happy you just made me... I just signed up and was dreading having to watch the Yankees on a nonHD channel 9 the games that are played on that channel.
Thanks.
Way to go DTV! Add networks to the large cities and forget about us out in the boonies who don't even get the major networks.
Great news! 2 down and 1 to go... channel 13-1 (PBS-HD). /steve

It would be nice if those HD channels would be added to the DNS lineup.

yeah, where is this info from? great news if true - i'm about to upgrade to hd (waiting for my $600 free money check later this year), but if i can watch ALL mets games in hd (including the ones on cw) then i'd be more inclined to do it sooner...
will these be on spot beam or CONUS?

Spots, all locals are on spots except the DNS that are CONUS

The only chance these channels have of being CONUS is if they are used as DNS channels which is highly unlikely IMO.

yup.. D* already has a CW DNS affiliate and it's not WPIX, so I'm sure they aren't going to operate two different CW DNS affiliates (one for SD and one for HD.)

Does this mean that Mets games on the CW11 might be available on the MLB extra-innings package? That would be sweet since I just moved to the Houston area.

Reminds me of the classic line by the late sportscaster, Bob Murphy, who said, in the mid-60s:
"All of the Mets color games this year will be colorcast in color."

Little did we know then that baby would grow up to be Tim McGraw! Married to Faith Hill, no less! /steve

Slightly off topic: Any chance WWOR will become a superstation (like WGN) again? Or better yet, WPIX (Let's Go Mets Go).

Interesting issue.
* It could be technology related, where the sat spot beams are available to the NYC area, but not northern Indiana.
* It could be economic related, where the Ft Wayne or South Bend markets are less than 5 percent the size of the NYC market, so a 10% increase in NYC is worth more than a 100% increase in Ft Wayne.
* It could be competetion related, where DirecTV is facing strong competition (such as Fios) in the NYC market, and needs the additional local channels to compete.
There's no indication of the additions on the DirecTV online guide yet. I hope this happens before baseball telecasts start.

Alright. Let's tackle these issues one by one...Way to go DTV! Add networks to the large cities and forget about us out in the boonies who don't even get the major networks.DirecTV has had issues adding WWOR and WPIX for a while, more than likely because they had added the sports RSN's (MSG, FSNY, SNY, YES) to the spot-beam payload, which was only being broadcast to the New York area. Now that they've removed the HD RSN's to the CONUS payload, available for all of the US to see, there is space for local channels to be broadcast to the New York area. That is why those two stations are being added. It doesn't take up any additional capacity, as these are only going to the New York area.It would be nice if those HD channels would be added to the DNS lineup.Well, there are many issues at play, here.
The CW is considered a network, and therefore could be put in HD by DirecTV through the distant network service (DNS). MyNetworkTV, however, cannot.
Both WPIX (CW NY) and WWOR (MyNTV NY) however are considered superstations. As matter of fact, there is a question whether or not the HD versions of these channels are superstations. They play by different rules than any of the networks or independents.
DirecTV could have offered these two channels nationwide in standard definition (SD) when DirecTV first launched back in 1994. So I do not expect them to offer either of these channels in HD through DNS or any other mechanism.
I only need WWOR in HD for the Yankees games. Neither WWOR nor WPIX broadcast their 10pm newscast in HD.
Yeah, D* used the WWOR My 9 HD feed for quite a few Yankees My 9 games as part of MLB EI last season. I hope it continues in 2008. The PQ from My 9 HD was outstanding.

I watched the Yankees on my9 with cablevision last year and their HD was just amazing... I hope the same to continue on for D*.

This makes me wonder if DirecTV may use WPIX-HD for an HD DNS channel. There are some places that have yet to get any locals, much less HD locals. I do get The CW on ch 385 which is the Washington DC one.

I can't believe I missed this thread a couple of days ago, but this is awesome news! All I need is PBS-13 and I can get rid of my crappy $10/month Cablevision DVR!

You mean PBS 13 is worth $10/month?
Can you pick it up OTA?

Can you pick it up OTA?Hey, this isn't a pledge drive! :p
No, but until I finish up some leftover Reaper and Supernatural recordings, I'll still be paying the $10/month ... and still take advantage of having PBS in HD on the Cable box.
(I live too far from the WNET transmitter to get it in HD - I'd need a roof antenna and that's not something I want to do where I live. I'll just wait for D11 to go operational in April/May and then we should get PBS in HD, and I'll say goodbye to the craptastic Cablevision DVR for good!)
Anybody have any idea which sat and transponder are these two channels on?

I called D* to see if I could get the CWHD from NYC since I currently get my DNS locals from NYC. They said they're not allowed to. I asked if we could ever get the CW in HD through DNS and he said they hope to they just don't know when.
I'll try again later to see if another CSR is more helpful.

If you receive NY locals than yes you get CW HD via DirecTV as of this morning.
I am so happy this finally happened. Now all my Yankees games will be in HD from YES and Channel 9!
I really have become an HD snob, I don't even have channels 9 and 11 in my favorites guide; I will have to add them tonight!

Earl answered already, but I still chuckle every time I see the question, simply because I have a previous association with "CW" from work ... to me it has always meant "classified waste", and it gives a new meaning to the network for me. :p

Do I have to do anything to get this to kick in... Reset the box or something. Cause 1 day later and I am still not seeing it.

They appeared automatically on my receivers, so you shouldn't have to reboot.
I guess it wouldn't hurt to try a reboot if they're still not in your guide. You could also try to reauthorize your receivers to see if that makes a difference.

I had it and did not realize it. I have 'Hide SD' channels enabled, Native Off with only 1080i enabled and the call letters D* assigned do not have HD in them. There is almost no HD programming on either station (until baseball) and likewise nothing I watch on either (until baseball). So they just became HD in my existing favorites list (My9=720p and CW=1080i) bumping the SD channels off and I would never have known--since I would have watched the Yankees OTA and never have checked the satellite channel. Thanks for the thread...

You assume correctly. In fact, you may never get it from Directv since it is a LIN station.

Oh God, I can't contain my joy!!!:hurah:
Does this mean that if I get my cousin who still lives in Jersey to send me an HD IRD I can get MSG, SNY, FSNNY, and YES, all of them in HD....24/7 ???
Yanks, Knicks, and Isles ALL IN HD down hear in humid-ass, hot as hell, Miami.
Oh yeah, and on Saturday I can watch the Yanks IF I DAMN WELL CHOOSE TO DO SO(which I will.)??? :D
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE tell me this is so!

Yes technically what you are asking for is possible, you can see the NY RSNs, but you will not be able to see the spot-beamed NY locals. (Also, this type of discussion is not encouraged at DBSTalk.)

That's alright, I least I get something so I'm not shut out of those occasional Friday night games (even if that channel doesn't have about the worst damn picture in the entire lineup).
