View Full Version : Some hints of things to come in the 10K report
Looking over the DirecTV 10K report, that was made available at http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=127160&p=irol-sec&control_selectgroup=Annual%20Filings it said:
"Also in 2008, we expect to significantly increase the recording capacity of our HD-DVR. We also plan to introduce HD versions of our interactive applications."
It also had:
"We also expect to introduce a home media center that will provide HD and standard-definition DVR functionality throughout the home and allow customers to access stored content, including video, photos and music, seamlessly from any connected television set in a household." Make me wonder it we're talking about having to get a new box vs. just being able to use our HR2x's.

Could this mean the eSata will be in addition to the internal drive instead of in place of it?

Thats how it sounds which isn't very encouraging... I was hoping for an ad-hoc environment where HR2x were aware of others on the network and streamed content between them.

Why couldn't it be the HR2*?
It does both SD/HD DVR....
As for what the "destination boxes" would be...... those too could be HR2* or even H21 or any yet to be named boxes

Very Very doubtfull.
They could be referring to the HR21p which will have a larger hard drive.
They could be referring to a DirecTV branded eSATA option
They could also be referring to newer HR21 systems, getting larger hard drives as a standard...
They could also be referring to a new line of DVRs... that have larger hard drives.

Yeah this sounds more like the MRV that we've all been salivating over .. Just going by a more marketable name :).

The OP observation quote could also be addressed by simply "officially" activating the eSata option, and perhaps even offering a self-contained drive package.
As you've most likely read, a number of folks here have already done this on a CE tester basis.
The comment about the "home media center" has appeared for at least two years now in their prospectus.
While it would be nice if they just increased the HD size in their HR21 line that would seem to counter their need to reduce the cost of that unit. I think it's more likely they're talking about the eSATA option and the HR21 Pro.
A DirecTV branded eSATA drive probably wouldn't be a bad idea if the intent is to make it easier on customers.

Exactly. The adding a drive is probably something people who do not frequent here or a few other places in the net even know about.

As receivers roll out... they are already working on the next ones.
As receivers roll out... they are already working on the next ones.As we've come to learn with the HR20 in particular, rolling a product out doesn't mean that it is a finished product.
