Simple Poll, do you use Paper or Paperless billing with D*?

I am just switching to Paperless, seems like it should be easier overall and save the planet (a bit).

And just say NOOOO to auto-pay on anything other than a credit card!

Or save D* money on printing, postage etc......

Seriously, I do paperless with almost everyone. I won't go paperless for my bank though. I like having that paper sent to me.

Ya, Autopay makes me a bit worried. I am sure it is safe and all, but I would still rather pay my bills each month and know what I am spending.

I am switching all my main stuff over to online, Phone, TV, Internet, Cell Phone. Seems easier and plus I earn airline miles on my Credit Card! ;)

Still will get the bank, Credit Card, etc. as paper though, good to have a hard copy to look over and be cautious with.

At least my bank's logo is green, so there's a little green with every statement

I switched to paperless and autopay a few months ago when, for the first time ever, I forgot to pay my bill on time. I didn't want that to happen again and ruin whatever "good customer" status I have with directv so I went with autopay. The only down side of it is that if there's a mistake on your bill, directv gets the money first and you only get it back the next month. Happened to me once with an erroneous $70 charge for a tech visit.

I happen to like paper records, they grow the trees to make the paper, let D* buy the paper rather than me. (and the ink)

I'm spilt here.

Trees are evil. They prevent me from putting in service to a number of customers so they must go. :D

But, since day one back in '02 I've been on paperless billing with autopay to my credit card. Never late, never an issue.

I do paperless on everything I can. Not for the trees as much as my own filing time. FYI to First Horizon users out there. They have been tacking on a $11 fee for the online payment and I went back to checks and stamps.
I only wish that Direct Tv and others would follow some of the credit card companies and offer a year end statement for printing and record keeping purposes.

I would prefer a credit every month for my paperless billing and saving them the cost of mailing out a bill. I hate the fact that many companies think it's good for the consumer - when it's actually good for the bottom line and they won't cut us in!

I was paperless until they charged me for something they were not supposed to (125 dollars) and I only caught it by accident. Since then I switched back to paper.. I still do autopay but i don't trust them. The bills in email they sent NEVER had any detail in them, i only noticed that the charge on my credit card was higher than i thought it should be.

I do paperless for just about everything...

However, I abstain from voting in this poll because it has nothing to do with the trees!

Paper companies routinely plant MORE trees than they CUT.... And, actually, the trees planted for paper are best since new growth is best used for paper. IF old growth is cut down, only the top thin part of the tree is used for paper. The bottom of the tree is used for lumber.

Sorry for the tangent, but being in the industry it's one of my pet peeves when someone says "Save the Trees" :)

Paperless here for 100% of my bills, everything is stored in PDF format for me. With my bank I can download the details of my DirecTV bill directly already in PDF format along with most of my other bills. Nothing about the trees for me but it's nice to say pay on this day and not worry about getting it there in the mail. I think the only mailed payment I make is for my wife's magazines.

Most all of my recurring bills are paid automatically w/ paper statements being
supressed. Easier, safer & more secure. Also, notify or opt out of paper billing.

In over five years of auto or internent bill paying, I've yet to experience an error.

Paperless and Online Bill Pay through my bank for EVERYTHING. I even pay people I owe money to by having my bank send them a check :) It's free and easier, so why not?

I like a paper trail, I just like it to be an electronic paper trail.... I also save all my bills on PDF using PDF Creator. For those not aware, it's a print driver that prints to PDF. Great for 'saving to your records' without actually printing anything.

Paper bill, following which I use online bill pay through my bank.

I very much wish that DirecTV would allow on-line access to the bill while continuing to provide a paper bill in the mail.

If you really want to save trees, put a stop to the bulk rate postage that permits tons of junk mail being sent daily. My DirecTV bill (and my response in the poll) has nothing to do with saving trees.

No Autopay - I like to review my bill before I pay, online banking is set to autopay on the due date, but gives me a review opportunity.

My decisions have nothing to do with 'the trees'

I agree 110% I pay everything online that I can but never autopay. I decide when and how much they get. As for forgetting to pay, with modern financial software such as Quicken you should never forget. I have everything scheduled and am reminded 3 days ahead of time. I also have the schedule set up with payments far enough in advance it is no issue if I done even open the program for a wek.

Paper bills for everything. All of which ends up in weekly recycling along with the tons of junk mail and junk inserts in the Sunday paper. Auto-debit from checking account for as long as they have had it. For everything possible.

They used to. For years, I got a paper bill AND had access to my DirecTV statement online. I had the monthly fee taken out of my checking account automatically.

Suddenly, last spring I got an email with some nonsense about a new "federal law" stating that I had to go to the website and agree to receive my statement online. But before I agreed, I noticed that agreeing would STOP my paper bill. Internet email notifications sometimes have problems. The Post Office is VERY reliable. So, I discontinued my "autopay" and opted to only receive a paper bill. Strangely enough, I can still view my "activity since last statement" online....but I can't view the statement itself online anymore. Go figure.

I autopay and online payments. Use my debit card as a credit card. When I need xtra cash, go to any atm to withdraw. If there's a charge, my card company pays it! To be safe, always use a debit card as credit card.:D

Right now, we receive paper bills for everything. I notice that we have increasing options for e-bills through our online banking, including DTV. Am I correct in assuming that if I sign up for DTV, that I will stop receiving the paper bill? Also, does anyone know if the e-bill is basically the same as DTV's electronic bill? In other words, will it be as detailed etc...? Thanks.

JLucPicard
02-27-08, 01:40 PM
I don't know about the look and feel of the statements you would get through e-billing, but when you add DirecTV bills to your e-bills, they communicate (electronically) with DirecTV to start providing those e-bills, and I am certain DirecTV shuts off the paper bills at that point (maybe a one-month lag to make sure you don't miss a statement).

Paperless here. Been that way for quite some time, but I also have my account billed to Qwest and pay through them (also paperless and billed directly to my CC).
