View Full Version : Spanish in HD movie channels
Hi there, I have been enjoying the new HD channels since they came online in September. I had not noticed that none of the movie channels (500's) in HD have the alternate audio feature. It was pointed out by a friend who's wife is spanish.
Anyone know about this? Is it being done on purpose? Will the spannish track come online later on? Has DTV considered this all along? Taking it to the extreme, it could be considered a form of discriminaton.
Cheers !

Not providing Spanish audio on HD channels and calling it discrimination is absurd. This crap is getting out of hand. Since we do not have other languages, maybe we should call that discrimination against Polish, Russian, Chinese and others.
Do Spanish channels provide English audio?. Besides GOL I do not know of any.
They simply do not have HD masters with alternate audio. Probably in the future they will. When HBO will launch rest of their channels in HD they already anounced that they wil also have Spanish HBO version in HD.

Most smart people speak more then one language. What an insult to all the smart people that aren't/weren/t interested in learning another language. How can you generalize like that?!
I think that statement is just skatah!

I think that statement is just skatah!I don't know how it is now, but when I went through high school, we had to take a foreign language in the college prep curriculum. Having said that, lots of smart people never wanted to go to college. :)
To the OP: DIRECTV has no control over the secondary audio when the channel provider (HBO, SHO, etc.) does not include it.
If you notice on much of the HD programming content on the premium channels, there is a on-screen notice at the beginning that says something like "Secondary audio not available in HD."
I don't know why they don't include it, it could possibly be a bandwidth-related issue, but you should ask the question of the channel originator, not DIRECTV.

If you were a lawyer arguing in a court room you will definitely be embarrassed by asking a question you don't know the answer to. According to the line of reasoning of your question I must be smart indeed:rolleyes: YES, I speak more than one language Mr. Notorious. Furthermore I am FULLY bilingual which means I Read, Write and Speak both English and Spanish. Anybody can speak more than one language reading, writing and speaking another one fluently is entirely a different story. Did I answer your question Mr.?
DON'T ever under estimate your enemy and always come prepared for a good fight, you did NOT. Be careful what you wish for;)
Are you CLEAR?:p
OP...I really wouldn't consider it discrimination. I, too, would like to see the HD channels have a spanish track. My in-laws don't speak English. When they come to visit, I'd love for them to enjoy the movies the way I do. Looking forward to HBO Latino in HD.
