View Full Version : Video & Audio problems - ethernet?

Two weeks ago my 3LNB dish was replaced with a new slimline and 2 HR21-700s were added to my setup. The installer loaded the most current version of software on both boxes. (1FE) For the first 9 days, everything worked great. The shows I setup to record all recorded and played back with no problems. On the tenth day, I connected both systems to an ethernet router and checked out VOD.

That evening when we sat down to view some of our recorded shows, we had extra audio noises and picture break ups on everything we watched. Same thing for the following night. I also had problems when viewing live shows. I kept my two HR10-250s active for backups and the same shows viewed on them had no problems at all.

Someone in one of these threads had ask the question: Are these audio and video problems happening only for those that have an ethernet connection into the box?

I removed the ethernet cable from both HR21s two days ago and have not seen any more audio or video problems. The response time is also improved.

It leads me to believe the software to support ethernet is not yet ready for prime time. I'll connect the ethernet again for a trial after next software upgrade. Until then, I'm going to just enjoy error free viewing of all my new HD channels and forget VOD.

We have had ethernet support for almost a year.
(DoD has been on the systems for over 6 months)

And I still have ethernet connected today.

What other kind of equipment do you have on your network?

Not on the HR21-700s.

What other kind of equipment do you have on your network?

Two PCs.

I have a HR21-700 with no issues. It has been connected to my network since I got it.

Is your HR21 connected to a power filter? I could see the extra power draw possibly effecting the HR21, especially in a house with older power.

Both HR21s are connected to surge supressers. The house is only a few years old with 200 amp service. The HR10-250s have never had problems connected to the same power.

Actually... yes... there has been.
Just because most customers couldn't acctually access the conntent, doesn't me the code segments were not there.... (and there are people that have had access for a long time on the HR21's, using the same software that you had access too).

Not discounting the correlation that you've seen, but I find it very hard to believe there's causality involved.
