I was supposed to have my system upgrade today to HD. Installer showed up seen that the current dish is mounted on a flat roof and said he couldn't install new dish there. Well this is only place to get LOS because of neighbors trees. Told me only option was pole mount sometime 3 months from now. Refused to dom the install even if i waived any of their responsibility formleaks thru rubber roof. Anyone else run into this?:(

If you have your current dish mounted on a standard PhaseIII dish, and the mount is currently solid, you can use this adapter that my fellow subcontractor developed and uses for situations such as yours. He sells it inexpensively on eBay.

This is ideal, if you currently have a non-penetrating roof mount. Adding concrete blocks to it will increase stability.

You do not want to drill a flat roof!
That is why they make non penetrating roof mounts! IF you cause a leak the water will not go straight down..it will leak into many or all top floor rooms.
Look for an existing wire port. This can be cut open to run your cable and then resealed. Techs do not get enough money per installation to consider this work.
Run the cables (1=4) and then call for an installation........consider a cable run down the side of the building and into your site.

The Phase III mast is no where near strong enough for a Ka/Ku dish, and certainly wouldn't be up to code and sets the installer up for a chargeback (and it should).
A non-pen mount is the correct solution.

When correctly braced, it WILL. The one shown in the photo has been up on the roof for two years. Being half as high as the regular AT9 mast, it basically has a lighter wind load on it than the taller mast. The mast and braces form a locked tripod or tetrahedral structure; one of the strongest man made structures available. Both Alexander Graham Bell, in his latter years, and R. Buckminster Fuller knew this. Fuller invented the geodesic dome.

Will it work, probably.
Will it fail a QC resulting in a chargeback to the tech. Absolutely.

Custom installs are a customer and dealer specialty.
Forget RSP's. They want quantity and cheap. They are almost not at all considerate of specific customer situations.
I suncontracted with them since the mid 1990's. That, I no longer do. They don't pay enough.
