If you signed up for it when it became available, your free trial will be up soon. Are you prepared to pay for the HD Extra Pack channels, or will you remove them?
I for one am getting a lot out of MGMHD and some out of Smithsonian HD, so it stays for now.

I don't have a whole lot of interest in those couple of channels, but if DirecTV decides to put some sort of a sports spin on it, then I may have to go there.

I only watched a few shows from Smithsonian and a few movies from HDnetmovies, so the price was an issue. Maybe if more channels were offered the package would be more attractive.
I droped HBO so I'm keeping it for now.
I'm hoping they add a few more channels to it to maske it a better deal.

I watch NGCHD a lot so I'll keep it, I like the Smithsonian channel too but they need some new shows, it's already almost all reruns!

Currently there is not enough content to justify the cost. When D11 gets lit and more unique channels appear, I will probably revist the package.
I'll keep it. I like having the channels.

I don't mind paying the money just so I can have MGMHD. The quality is amazing.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think NGCHD is on the extra pack.

Yes, I am keeping it. I watch MHD and Smithsonian HD. Hopefully the will be adding more HD only channels to that package and without raising the price for a while.

No, I don't think it is. Because it is not an HD only channel.

You are correct. I typed NGC when I meant to type MGM. I've edited the post to clarify.

I voted yes, and don't have a problem with $15 a month total. :)
On the other hand, if they go on to third and fourth tiers, sports packages aside, I will be very leary as to their motive. :nono2:
Ah, what the heck, $5 isn't that bad.
It's not the price that gets me...I never found myself landing on any of those channels. Glad they gave us a choice instead of just pricing the HD pack at $15.
i am onl keeping it because i was given 10 dollars off a month for 12 months to make up for their protection plan free glitch, so between the PP at 6 bucks and the HD extra at 5 bucks, the 10 a month will just about offset the 12 for both of these (including tax)

In the beginning I loved it. I was watching those channels half the time I watched TV but it has been a month or two now and I think I have seen every show they have on some of the channels. Are they ever going to come out with some new programming?

When I called to activate the free 3 month trial I was given 6 months free. So far I think I would keep it at $5....it's one or two dvd rentals a month.

I'm keeping it. While I haven't watched many programs on the included channels, I still find it worthwhile for what I do watch.

Keeping it here I like MGMHD
Yea i have to keep it or i will lose MGM and HDNet MOVIE.I am getting addicted
to Smith also.
I am going to keep it for a while. I hope to get a new LCD flat screen within the next month and I want to have some additional channels to feed it when I do!
Yes, we dropped Starz because we find the content on HDNet, HDNet Movies and UHD to be better. For the first time since I started getting cable in 1976 I am not subscribing to any of the classic "premium" services.
Correction for me it's HDNet Movies and UHD. HDNet is not in HDExtra since the settlement.
Will keep it but more than likely drop HBO.

Universal has me hooked with all these older sci fi shows
It's not the price that gets me...I never found myself landing on any of those channels.
Me neither. I actually cancelled before my 3 free months was up.

Worth it for me, I like MHD and Smithsonian HD. Also find something occasionally worthwhile on HDNM.
What other national HD channels are we expecting with D11?
I just signed up for the free 3-month trial about two weeks ago, but so far it looks like there are enough shows/movies to make it worth it for my wife and I. :)

That's precisely why I cancelled. The issue wasn't really the price but more that I was paying for channels I had pretty much stopped watching.
Also, the world premiers on HDNMovies were disappointing to say the least.
I'm hoping Cuban renegotiates with DirecTV to put HDNET Movies back on the standard tier.
The jury is still out. I added the HD Extra pack when I dropped the Premier and went to the HDDVR pack (saved about $50 per month, since we weren't watching the movie and sports channels enough to justify the package PLUS HD PLUS DVR charges on the premier package.
They're there and I periodically watch them. HD Net Movies shows a bunch of older films, as does MGM, so I suppose that for the price if I watch one or two it's worth the investment.

Nope, will not keep it. Watched only 1 program on any of those channels this year. It may only be $5 a month but I won't spend it if I don't have to. Now if the main HDNet channel was in there then yes I would pay for it since I watch HD Net all the time.

I can always find a couple of movies a month on MGMHD and HDNet Movies. Smithsonian has several shows a week I watch live or record. And that doesn't count what my wife watches.
We're keeping it.

It is worth the 5 bucks for HDNet Movies and MGM, both of which I watch a lot (more than HBO).

MGM had Thunderbird 6 on over the weekend. Freakin' Thunderbird 6!

FAB
I'm actually thinking about dropping a movie pack just because I find the movies on MGM-HD and HDNet movies more interesting than what's constantly repeated on the much-higher-priced HBO and Starz packs.

The boss likes it as well. I dropped the Sports Pack between black out games really not worth the $$.

I find more options with this package than any of the true premium channels. This is a no brainer to keep this package on my account.

I'm still not sure. When I start getting charged for it that might be the straw that broke the camel's back, as it will push us over $100/month. That's an awful lot of money to pay to watch TV. The $98 I currently pay bothers me enough already.

FAB for me. :)
It is a keeper for me. I was initially on the fence to even get it, but the more I wanted MHD the more I couldn't resist it. I watch a lot of HD broadcasts on MHD and Smithsonian HD Channel. I don't watch much from MGMHD, nor have I even attempted to either. I may have to checkout the listings more to see what is on.

I don't think I've watched a single program on any of them.
So, no, I'm going to cancel.
Has anyone had success cancelling the HDExtra via their online account?
You left out the "Yes, I'll pay for it, but it isn't worth the money" option. :D
I bought my HDTV to watch HD. If this what I have to have the HD Extra to do so, that's what I'll do, for now.

I don't mind spending an extra $5 a month, but I find I never really watch anything on those channels. If they turned them off now I probably would never notice. I barely have time to watch the HD shows I want to see. I got over the novelty of watching anything just because it was in HD long ago, and I don't care about having bragging rights about having HD channels that I have no interest in watching. It's marked on my calender to drop it.

Agreed. Obviously, I prefer to watch things in HD, but I'd rather watch something I like in SD then something else just because it's in HD. In fact, I'd rather play with my kids or read a book or do many other things then watch something just because it's in HD.
There's certainly HD channels I'd pay extra for, but these aren't them.
with the economy the way it is, inflation increasing and raising 2 kids and a mortgage without getting cost of living increases, I chose to get rid of them. Just that inflation is over running the increase in wages leaving a lot of people behind and looking for ways to even save 5 bucks a month helps

Voted not sure yet cause I got $5/month for 12 months credit, so I still have a while to decide.
Yes, I cancelled online.
Thanks. I could not get my cancellation to work after umpteen tries over the course of a couple weeks. I finally emailed D* and they wrote back to say that they cancelled it for me, but they did not explain why I was unable to do so online. Instead, they tried to sell me internet service. If they could ever offer speeds equal to comcast, I might consider.

Not to mention they just raised the price of all the base packages. I'm paying an additional $3/month now.

I was never offered the free 3 months, even tho I signed up for HD 4 days before the offer ended. I am now talking to a CSR, and she is authorizing it, and turning it on.
After my 3 months, I will see if it is worth it.

I will let it go. Universal HD is like TNT now with commercials. hd net movies I find a few here and there to watch but nothing like I would for TBS.
Smithsonian, looks to be a lot of repeat stuff. MGM very few movies I would like to see from them that are in HD. Hopefully they can revamp the package at a later date to see if it is worth it again.
I dropped it yesterday. Glad I did. It feels like too much nickel and diming.
