I just switched to DirecTV from BrightHouse Cable. I had the Brighthouse DVR with 2 tuners and now have the HR21. The one missing feature the Brighthouse DVR had that the DirecTV DVR doesn't have is the Picture-in-Picture using both tuners. Made it easy to watch 2 shows or monitor a station for the end of the commercial break while surfing on the other.
The added bonus was the ability to swap between tuners at will and dual buffers.
I LOVE my DirecTV service, would just like to see the PIP added to future DVRs.

I miss PIP too. I was with Dish.
But now I'm enjoying all these great channels in HD, so I guess that was a fair trade-off.
I've started a thread and posted in others wondering why D* didn't implement PIP, but apparently we are in the minority of users. I'm kind of shocked by that because I would think anyone with Sunday Ticket would want and use PIP. As far as I'm concerned it is much more useful than Dual Live Buffers.
Ya, I miss DLB from my Tivo, but O well, I like HD more and some of the other features make up for some things that were annoying on Tivo.
You can always get PIP, 4 tuners, and Dual Buffers for $5 a month as well with a one time $199 up front fee :)

Don't forget that carpal tunnel is thrown in for free and the fun juggling the remotes game.:D

Very strange and unfortunate. I just don't get why a tech-forward company like D* makes some of their choices. If you're buying a brand new BMW, does it come with a modern sound system, or just an AM radio? Does the salesman say "Oh, well; we could have offered a better sound system, but chose not to." ???

In contrast, having seen PIP on my 40" Mitz screen for years, I really so little value in it myself. That's just my opinion, but I'm sure there are plenty of others who have no viable interest in PIP. I view PIP as an option, not an enhancement.
That said, having it available to those who want it makes some sense.

I can run PIP because I have multiple receivers. I've tried it a few times and I just get nothing out of PIP. And I watch a lot of sports. Most people think PIP is "cool" and use it once and never again. At least most people I've ever talked to about it going back 15-20 years when you had to pay *extra* to get a TV with PIP ability. :)

I agree, that is the only thing about BH that I miss. I used it a lot while watching sports, I could keep an eye on a secondary game and then swap and rewind if I noticed something happening. During football season I would keep one tuner on the Bucs game and use the other to swap between other games during commercials.
This box has come a long ways, but that is one feature that I really miss.
As far as the multiple receivers, on my TV if I am connected HDMI I do not have the ability to do PIP. But that is a function of the TV.
I have PIP on my Vizio TV. I have my HR20 hooked up to the HDMI connection and I have an OTA antenna hooked up to an AV input. So I can watch D* in one pane and OTA in another pane. I don't use it enough to justify paying for a second receiver, but it comes in handy during baseball season when I watch the game on one side of the screen and an OTA program on the other side of the screen.

You can do it all from one remote! Just program in the second receiver for AV1 and you are good to go :)
