UHD has been given a virtual channel mapping at 259. Looks like its permanent location once the MPEG4 transition is completed

seems like they're making some changes today... someone else noted that NASA got moved as well...
My question why 259? It would make since to keep it with the other NBC Universal channels like USA and SciFi. 241 would have been a better choice and 259 would be good for HDnet movies.

The 250s seem to be the place for non-premium movie channels. American Movie Classics (sic) is 254, MGM HD is 255, Turner Classic Movies is 256, Chiller is 257 and Fox Movie Channel is 258.

Right, HDnet Movies would be perfect in the 250s

Patience, grasshopper... The powers that be at DirecTV (whether in programming or engineering) do not seem to like to make too many changes at once-unless it's launching mass quantities of HD channels!
Okay, here's a somewhat related question. UHD has been channel 74. I have it in my custom channel line-up on my receiver. If DirecTV moves it to channel 259, will this change take place automatically on my receiver? In other words, will channel 74 disappear from my channel line-up and will channel 259 automatically be added?
Also, if DirecTV adds a new channel to the service I am paying for, will it automatically be added to my custom line-up or am I supposed to know by osmosis (or some other mysterious method) that a new channel has come on line and that I need to add it manually?

When NASA TV moved yesterday, my favorites list moved with it.

A little housekeeping is normal.

Maybe its time to take out the trash and throw away the shopping channels :)

They are scattered on purpose. If they were all in a nice tiddy block, it would be much easier to ignore them. Now as you are channel surfing the guide, you see that QVC is have a diamond sale, so you tune in and are hooked.
Yeah, I noticed this morning that NASA moved to the 200s. As far as the shopping channels (jewelry, QVC, etc.), I have them removed from my FAVs list, so they don't even show up on my end.

It will be automatically added to your custom line-ups.
However, you will have to change any series link recordings that you have setup for channel 74.
Hence why they leave both there for a while.

Mine isn't automatically added. I have to go in manually and add them to my favs.

I haven't attempted to use that for a while.
Have they got it working pretty decent now?

I know ... It was a happy thought
Channels are moving ... hmm. What a great opportunity for DIRECTV to send messages to receivers? (Hint. Hint.)

Not so much, but there has been a background improvement. If you try to record from one of the channels you don't receive (even though it shows up in your Channels I Get), it will let you know that you aren't authorized, which means that whishlist autorecords are working better now.

I dont know why directv send you messages about new channels being added or channe numbers being changed on the hd dvrs? they did use to send us messages on the tivos,I would think they would do that with the dvrs.

Of course as VOD ramps up and DVRs begin to emulate Tivo a little better, channel numbers will become somewhat of an anachronism. We don't watch/record channels, we watch/record programs, and a GOOD DVR knows how to find the programs regardless of which arbitrary name or number the channel is on. I have many programs on SP that for the life of me I couldn't tell you what day, channel, or time they actually occur on.
