View Full Version : Annoying Message Displays when switching Remote control modes
I find it very annoying when I'm using the remote for the HR20 and switch from DirecTV mode to AV1 or AV2 and press a button, a message is displayed on the Screen : "The remote is in AV1 mode"... I have to switch back to DirecTV mode just to hit Exit so the message goes away. Then switch back to AV1 to continue using the remote for the other component. It's really annoying if I'm trying to use the Remote to control my DVD player and I have to go back and forth just to get rid of that stupid on screen message. Is there any way to get rid of that message display? I hate it!

I agree with you, what a nuisance! But I doubt it can be fixed/resolved easily. It's there for "our protection" so we don't call support and ask why I cannot change the channel on my DVR when it is on AV2 :)

They should offer the ability to turn off these specific messages via an option in the setup menu.

This drive me nuts too. The process to turn on my equipment is:
1) Press the 'On' button to turn on the receiver and tv.
2) Slide to AV1 and press power to turn on stereo.
3) Slide back to Directv and press EXIT.
I know its AV1, I put it there. And furthermore, even after I move it back to Directv, it still says its an AV1 until I press another button. This message should simply not display anytime you hit a button that could be used for something other than the Directv receiver. It should only be displayed when you hit a button such as "Guide" that has no meaning to other devices. Also, it should pop up and go away within 2 seconds. This way, I don't have to do anything other than slide it back (skip pressing EXIT).

No there is no way to get rid of it.
The message like that will only appear, if you attempt to use a function on that AV1, that has a function back on the DVR.

Earl,
In my case, the PWR button under the slider is what is causing the message for me most of the time. Obviously the PWR button has a function on the DVR, but come on... do I really need to be told in that situation? This is a frequent issue for me because my TV will not respond to the TV Off/On buttons on the right side when using my HR20-700's remote. The TV Off/On buttons do work on my HR21-100 remote.
So when I turn on my TV using my HR20 remote, these are the steps I must follow...
1. Slide the slider to TV.
2. Press PWR.
3. Press PWR again (This is because the first time does not affect the TV. All the first press does is show the message on the screen which is not on yet.)
4. Slide the slider to DTV.
5. Press exit to clear the message.
When turning off, pretty much the same process in reverse.
1. Slide the slider to TV.
2. Press PWR. (Message apppears that remote is in TV mode. TV does not turn off.)
3. Press PWR. (TV turns off.)
In most cases I leave the remote in TV mode after turning off the TV. Doing this will eliminate the message when powering on and the first PWR button press results in the TV coming on. However, if I turn off the TV using a different remote or via the button on the TV, then I have the process above with the extra steps.
It's not the end of the world, but it is annoying.

But what about the case for other users...
That accidentaly moved the slider...
And is hitting power 50 times trying to turn off the DVR.

Earl,
My point is that it should be only a 2 second message or something like that on the screen (like ajwillys suggested). There's no need to keep it on there so long. 2 seconds each press would be good enough... but it should also actually send the command instead of just displaying the message. In my case, it does not send the PWR command the first time... it only displays the message.
Or, just give me the option to turn it off. Of course, then you will certainly have people who turn it off and forget they did so. Then those same people will have the issue you are describing.
The real issue, for me anyhow, is that the remote isn't even sending the power-off
signal to my audio system on the first press of the button. The remote recognizes
that I moved the slide switch and on the first press of the button it insists on
sending a code to the DVR saying, in essence, the slide switch was moved and a
button was pushed so please display an annoying message on the screen and
leave it there forever. It is very annoying.
But what about the case for other users...
That accidentaly moved the slider...

If they are that dumb, they need to have their subscription canceled by DirecTV.
