Got a call from Directv today. They were checking to see if my equipment had been upgraded to receive the new HD content for my HD TV's and I told them it was. However, I have been using an HR10-250 for a SD TV in the master. They told me they would swap it out with a new HD DVR for no charge! I was floored. This is the first time since I have been with them that they made me feel like they wanted me as a customer. The CS agent was polite and helpful, and answered all of my questions professionally.

I have never been one to call and ask for "credits" or freebies, even though I have complained LOUDLY on this site about the problems I have had. So, I have to admit, Directv does seem to be reaching out to keep their good customers. The experience tonight was far and above different from what I have experienced in the past. I wish there was a way to give the CS person credit for a job well done. I am actually excited to see what model DVR I will get. Anybody know?

BTW, since this is a hot button issue on here, the CS agent told me three (3) separate times (and very clearly) that although there was no charge for the new DVR, my contract would be extended 24 months.

Thats enough compliments, don't want to sound like a Directv fanatic.

And the agressive upgrades to MPEG-4 technology continues.

Nice story, and glad it worked out for you

Or the HR21-100.
But you could get a refurbed HR20 just as easily. It's a crap shoot.

Kewl stuff man! A similar thing happened to me in August of last year when I went to upgrade to the HD DVR Plus Package and nothing worked, they said it must be my HR10-250 wasn't compatible, they sent me a swap out...to say I was stoked is an understatement.

Just out of curiosity, how long have you been a DirecTV customer?

I'm 10+ years now with D* and don't think I'm in a contract.

I will add another positive D* story. I recently had my old Hughes HD receiver start acting up and they sent me a new HD receiver for the cost of shipping only. Pretty nice.

They didn't call me but when I checked my account online it said I was eligible to replace my last mpeg2 receiver, an RCA HD unit that I owned. I called and the csr said yes, but DiecTV would have to install it and there may be a fee. I said, if that was the case, forget it, I could install it myself. She looked at my account activity and said obviously I self installed my last 3 receivers, and swapped out defective units myself, so this did not make sense. Never heard back from them, and when I check my account, it says, order cancelled.

although there was no charge for the new DVR, my contract would be extended 24 months.

Is this 24 months from the end of your current contract (which could be a year from now), or 24 months from today?
I ask because as a new Directv customer (October) my contract is through October 2009.
If I took advantage of an offer like this, would the contract now go through March 2010 or October 2011?

yes you would have a 2 yr committment, and it would be a leased recvr , this is a "swap" offer, very recently the swap offers had the 2 yr committment added, we used to offer a no committment swap at no cost . now it's still no cost, but with a comm

as a new customer , you wouldn't be eligible for an offer like this, as you already would have had the mpeg 4 hd equipment installed, if you only have standard equipment, you would have to "upgrade" to hd

ladannen,

I would guess the 24 month new commitment clock would start ticking upon activation of the new receiver, not necessarily the order date. But the new commitment would start at activation and run 24 months from then - DirecTV does not just stack the commitments.
