View Full Version : Dont understand
My local cable company provides not only the locals from the Hartford/New Haven DMA but also the ones from the New York DMA. This is legal, but DirecTV or Dish cannot provide me the New York locals also. Why is this allowed for cable and not for DBS?

Because thats how the law works.
So the law doesnt apply to cable?

The law in question is the Satellite Home Viewers Act. It only applied to satellite reception of local stations, it did not change cable. NAB lobbists got it pretty restrictive.

Cable companies and Satellite systems are ruled by two completely separate and distinct rules. Cable has some advantages and satellite has others.
