I just got DirecTV installed this past weekend. Why does my account online say "no annual commitment"? Does that mean I can cancel at any time without the early term fee?

Not sure of the answer but, out of curiousity, where on the website did you find this information?

Sounds strange. I don't think I have an annual commitment because I furnished my own, pre-RID number Hughes GAEBOA receiver and access card that I was given by a commercial dealer, and I explicitly refused each and every offer for promotional benefits that they offered me, but I am obviously the exception rather than the rule.

It seems to me that if they gave you equipment and an installation, then you must have some kind of early termination liquidated damages responsibility.

I received an e-mail telling me that the early cancellation penalty would be $X prorated for each HD recorder, $Y for each standard recorder and $Z for each HD receiver, but I received none of those, and I had already installed my own dish, so I am certain that I can quit at any time without recourse, but again, your situation surely differs from mine

I would think I had a commitment and was fully expecting one. But under my account on their website, in the details of my programming packages, it says no annual commitment. Who knows. I don't plan to cancel, but I am going to move in a few months (if I can sell the place) and I'm not sure I want to move with them. (Already miss my TiVo S3 and it's been....5 days.)

Give it time. In a few weeks, you'll likely never look back at your TIVO. Others may disagree, but that was the case for me and I use to like TIVO.
