View Full Version : Remote Scheduling: Duplicate channels when an HD option is available

Hello. When I go to directv.com and select "TV Listings" so that I can use the remote scheduling feature, I see my locals duplicated. These appear to be my standard locals and hi-def locals duplicated because they share the same channel number.
In fact (for me), this also occurs for any std.-def and hi-def channels that share the same channel number (like SCIFI/SCFIHD, TNT/TNTHD, etc.). But at least you can tell them apart. The duplicated local channels (for me) show the exact same channel name for the std. vs. HD channels.
Question: Is there a way to suppress the standard-def channels from appearing in this list if there is an alternate HD channel sharing the same channel number?

I wondered the same thing, it is more of a pain when using the mobile site.

If I am correct, there is an option on the HR21 menu to hide STD duplicates.
You will need to go to setup. I don't know if the remote booking feature of DTV knows that you have them hidden.

I will look right now, but I believe you can tell by the call letters. Say 29Fox is SD and 29WFLX is HD
Nope, that works on the unit but not on the web, but it does appear that when given a choice the first is the HD.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I already have my standard duplicates hidden on my HR20. They have not been showing up in my channel guide. But it does not seem to matter. When I look at my TV listings at directv.com, both the STD and HD channels are shown.
Don't get me wrong... I'm not dissing Remote Scheduling. It is a great feature and I have used it several times since it became available in January. But I think it needs a few minor tweaks:
1) Hide standard channels when there is an HD duplicate
2) Allow for searching for shows by title or keyword on the web-version (this is already available in the mobile web version).
3) Allow the set-up of recurring recordings. Right now, you can only set up a one-time record.
4) Allow padding ("start 5 mins early", "end 30 minutes late", etc.)
Just my two cents...

Since the HD shows are labeled "HD", I actually prefer seeing both listed for the times a 4:3 pillar-boxed show is shown on an HD channel, I prefer to record the SD versions so I can view it using my display's "smart stretch".
I think what's needed is a way to customize the channel list the DirecTV.com channel GUIDE displays on a user-defined basis, for those that only want to record HD. Alternately, DirecTV could provide an "HD Filter" for the on-line GUIDE, similar to the filter on the HR2x.
The current MINIGUIDE limitation of 5 user-selected channels is just too little.
Just my .02. /steve
