I had a bad BBC that came with our HR21-200. The symptom would be no signal on the tuner it was attached to after verifying the problem moved with the BBC.

I ordered a replacement BBC.

Tonight I popped open the black box of the BBC. Inside is an unmarked metal box ... except one end has arrows engraved on it. The pigtail was on the side without the arrow. That didn't make sense to me as the satellite signal should flow to the reciever in my thinking. Sure enough the working BBC had the pigtail on the arrow side. So if you have a BBC that has never worked, check that the pigtail is on the correct side(arrow side).

Probably easier to just request a free replacement from DirecTV.

Yes, I did but I was bored waiting the 10-17 days to get the new one.

Actually it was a really easy fix. Black plastic box pops open. Unscrew pigtail from the wrong side and screw on the other side with the arrows. The pigtails are originally lock tighted on so a cresent wrench may be needed.

An easy and quick fix with no waiting.

I would try to fix it just because I'm impatient.....
