View Full Version : Transponder Signal Problem?

I'm in Northern California (Sacramento area), and have an HR21-700 with the current HD dish (the SlimLine 5 LNB dish).
When I check the signal strength on my HR21, for 101 degrees, I'm seeing low levels for the following transponders:
18 (which shows 57), 26 (at 0), and 28 (at 61)
All the rest are super strong (89 or above), so what is wrong with 18, 26, and 28?
Is this normal, or something wrong with my dish/should I have DTV come back out and readjust it? Also, should I check a different satellite than 101 degrees?
Thanks in advance.

Another question -- could it be something wrong with the BBC's or my multi-switch? If so, I'd appreciate help in where to start checking and how I can troubleshoot this (and where to start, what to do) -- thanks again!

Those should be spot beams.
Are you missing any SD local channels?
If not, don't worry about it.

Robert,
Sometimes a few of our local *HD* channels will pixellate and freeze. It's very intermittent, but I was trying to figure out if the values I listed that were low might have anything to do with it.
If you have any other tests for me to do to check other satellites or anything else to see if my dish might be the culprit (or the BBC's or even the multi-switch), I'd be appreciative.
Thanks!

If the problem is limited to your local HD channels, then check your readings on the 99 and 103-deg W satellites. Post back your result here .....

Satellite transponders (16 total at 103(s))

I did these on Tuner 1. Not sure if you wanted these on Tuner 2, as well. If you did, let me know, and thanks so much for your help!!

Transponder 3 off the 99 degree satellite carries Sacramento, CA HD locals. Your readings look good from what you posted. (Transponder 4 on the 101 degree Location carries SD IIRC.)
Are your readings on tuner 2 different from tuner 1? (+/- 2%)
Also, which locals do you see freezing?

The readings on tuner 2 were the same (+/- 2%), except for 103(s) #17, which was 82 on tuner 2, and 87 on tuner 1 (a difference of 5%).
Also, for 103(c) on tuner 2, there were a few transponders that had differences of more than 2:
9-16 85 82 85 77 86 83 NA NA
17-24 81 NA NA NA NA 81 NA NA
Not sure if this make a difference.
As for which locals, it seems to only be with NBC (KCRA).
Thanks for your help!
You might want to look at the local HDTV reception thread for Sacramento (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=397256&page=201) over at AVSForum.com. There's been a long history of reception problems of DirecTV's HD LiL's there due to a number of unusual factors. These problems are unrelated to the signal strength you are receiving from the DirecTV satellite carrying the local channels.

Thanks for the link -- it appears it isn't my specific setup, and just issues with KCRA (4), and others. Hopefully they can get their act together. :(

Thanks soooo much for the links and extra info. Appears that my dish and setup are fine, just problems in my area with the local broadcasters/feeds themselves.
Much appreciated!! :)
