I am upgrading a second room to HD.
I have two runs to that room and can't run another.
Can I continue to diplex the OTA with the SAT when changing to HD?
Thanks!

Yes for the OTA, but remember there is not a OTA tuner on the HR21 series. However, when the AM21 is avaliable for OTA on the HR21 series, then yes I use them for the OTA.

Actually, NO for the OTA under "normal" circumstances. There are work-arounds that sometimes work and sometimes do not, depending on a variety of circumstances. This has been covered extensively in these forums, do a search on diplexing OTA with HD to find a lot more information.

Perhaps Carl knows something I don't. It works in my environment for me, but I would do some research on it. There may be some gotchas that I do not know about.

Two answers - no and maybe. No because the new satellite DirecTV10 (and the next one DirecTV11) use the same frequency band as OTA and the signals will therfore interfere with each other. Maybe, because if your OTA comes into a diplexer indoors, you can move the B-band converter to the dish side of the first diplexer, and the signals from DirecTV10/11 will get converted away from the OTA band before the OTA signals are diplexed in. A couple of caveats though. The BBC is designed to be attached directly to the receiver and so it may not work correctly when located at a distance, this depends on the distance involved and the quality of the cables. Second, the workaround is not DirecTV-approved, because of the fact it works for some people and not others, so you will not get any help from DirecTV support. The good news is that it works for almost everyone - I use this workaround and have nevr had any problems. Third, the BBC is not designed to be outside so if your OTA antenna is diplexed into the sat line outside you have a problem. Some people have built waterproof boxes for the BBC and report success.
If the diplexing is done outside, you could use the SWM dish which is expected to become available later this year. This eliminates the need for a BBC and so will allow diplexing the way it has been done in the past, and also because it will allow the two tuners in the DVR to be driven from a single cable.

Everything is inside. If I get a HR21 wil swm be enabled?
I will uninstall the diplexers before the install and then play with the setup after.
I only use the OTA for a MCE PC for local HD.
I wish D*** would get us a PC card for use with a MCE. I have seen some rumors but nothing real.

1. all H2x and HR2x recievers are SWM compatable
2. yep set it up as designed and make sure everything works before playing
search for HDPC.. lots of info there (except when it's comming)

Will the SWM work without the new dish?

search for HDPC.. lots of info there (except when it's comming)The pictures that were posted recently suggest that the PC solution is a largely self-contained external device as opposed to a PCI or PCI-e card.
The issue is, was and will likely always be Micro$oft's complete and utter inability to keep ahead of the DRM crackers. Then there will be the disproportionately loud pissing and moaning from the Mac and Linux crowds.
Will the SWM work without the new dish? Not even.
Obviously, if you have an older setup, it wouldn't likely be running the kinds of receivers that support SWM/FTM, so I would think that it wouldn't matter.

I have the slightly older 5 LNB dish not the "slimline".

Yes it will (I had the SWM5 before I got the new 5LNB) but you won't get any of the new channels...

Will the SWM work without the new dish?
Yes. You need to run four cables from the dish to the SWM. The new dish is essentially a slimline with the SWM built into the dish. If you have any older non-SWM compatible recivers they won't work with the new dish. If you have a stand-alone SWM, there are two "legacy" outputs to which you can connect older tuners.
I have the slightly older 5 LNB dish not the "slimline".Given that the AT-9 is functionally identical to the AU-9, it should work. When you said "without new" I assumed that you meant older and not one release back. Imagine if you had said that you were using an older version of Windows and you meant Vista without SP1.
If you have specific questions about specific equipment, be specific about the equipment that you have so respondents aren't forced to make assumptions.

Sorry about the confusion.
Here is my setup:
AT-9
Zinwell 4803 (4x8)
1 HR-20 700
1 R10 100
2 DSR704s (one tuner active)
Radio shack OTA for MCE PC

What is the advantage to the WD68?
Power is not a problem for me.
