Cool ... the feed was turned on Friday night and is on a spotbeam to the New Orleans area only.

I understand that CSTNO is only available to those in the New Orleans area, but what about other people who are in that spotbeam? I have no idea since I am not, but if people who get that spotbeam and are on the multi-sports pack and aren't in the area, can they get CSTNO as part of the package, similar to how those on the west coast could get FSNW2 (now PRIME) as part of it, as long as you could get the signal...
(Yay, 1000 posts, lol...)

Just to follow up based on the the EKB http://ekb.dbstalk.com/E10spots/e10t23.pdf it would be people in parts of south Mississippi, southwest Alabama, those outside the New Orleans area of Lousiana and then MAYBE the extreme southeast of Texas and Extreme Northwest of Flordia who can pull in that spotbeam.

It would be confusing for people outside the spot to have a subscribed channel that was not tunable. How did they work it for FSNW2? Was it automatic for Multi-Sport within a geographic area or was it by request?
If someone is in the NO beam and subscribes to Multi-Sport let us know what you see. (Although I'm not sure what CSTNO's "normal" area is.)

If memory serves me correct, if you could get a signal/were in the beam for FSN West 2 and had the Multi-sport package, you could watch the station. Not that I am in the Cox Sports New Orleans area, but I am just wondering what the case is in this scenario....

This is according to the cst website
What is the Cox Sports Television coverage area?
Cox Sports Television’s coverage area reaches a 350-mile radius from New Orleans, LA and includes Louisiana, southern Mississippi, western Alabama, and the Florida panhandle. Our coverage is also available in parts of eastern Texas and southern Arkansas. However, CST coverage cannot extend into markets within a 75-mile radius of Houston and Memphis.

Based on that, you would think it would be anyone within the spotbeam... Is there not anyone on the forum who has Dish and now sees this active?

I am in Hammond, La which is about 50 miles north of New Orleans. The saturday nite game was shown, then when the game was over the screen went to the "dish logo" screen. As of now the channel is blank, but the guide shows the regular programming info starting this wed afternoon so i guess the channel will go full time then.We need someone in Mississippi or Alabama to let us know if they are getting channel 421.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -The New Orleans Hornets have a better shot at succeeding in this rebuilding region now that one satellite TV company has agreed to pick up the sports channel that carries their games, but DirecTV and a suburban cable company need to follow suit, area government officials said Monday.

The Hornets announced a deal Monday that will enable New Orleans-area Dish Network subscribers to watch Hornets games on Cox Sports Television through the end of the 2009-10 season.
The official launch of CST on Dish Network channel 421 will take place Wednesday, before the Hornets' 7 p.m. home game against the San Antonio Spurs. Rod Mickler, vice president of regional sports for CST, said the deal was signed Saturday afternoon and Dish Network subscribers were able to watch Saturday night's game between the Hornets and the Houston Rockets.

Northwest probably wont get it unless you have a big Dish (starting at least with a 30'', maybe even bigger needed) so you can pull that Spotbeam in...

The only reason dish got this channel is because the city council and the nba commisioner got involved with the negotiations. When the nba asks you to try and do something, you usually try and comply. In our area, which is the 50 -100 mile range circling outside of new orleans, dish now is the only one carrying this channel. Dish should put full page ads in the paper saying watch the hornets here!, not on charter cable, not on directv, only on Dish!!
They havent done it yet, but directv still runs their ads here about hd locals, being on directv and not dish.

Dennis, trust me, the issue has well connected people involved out here.......I think what happened is your channel probably cut an unbelievable deal for almost free that Dish couldn't pass it up.

Then all of the city councils and all of the leagues need to get all of the professional teams sports networks on both cable and satellite and not be so greedy about it, e.g., CSN-NW and CSN-Philly. ;)
NBA Commissioner David Stern, who expressed concern for the Hornets' television situation while attending the All-Star Game in February, said in a statement that he hoped "Charter Communications and DirecTV will be willing to step up for the citizens of New Orleans and the Gulf South region in similar fashion."
I would hope he does this for the Portland Trail Blazers as well.

Unless CSN-Philadelphia changes from its landline setup, you are NEVER going to see Dish Network get it. DirecTV could if they wanted to pay through their nose, but they haven't done so at this point and I can't see them changing their stance on it.
Quickly the backstory for anyone who doesn't know, in Philadelphia, Comcast distributes the signal only by land line. By doing so, it is able to avoid an FCC regulation that requires most television channels to be offered to direct broadcast satellite companies. This is why the CSN-Philadelphia feed is not used for NBA and NHL on Dish (and also MLB on DirecTV). Since Comcast is the cable provider in the region, it forces those who want to watch local sports to sub to CSN.
In regards to CSN-NW. I think the same issue applies. CSN wants a lot of money for carriege and Comcast is the main cable provider in that region. To an extent, it is better for them to try and charge an arm and a leg so that people in the DMA have to sub to Comcast cable.

Actually D* has used CSN-Philly for its NHLCI package (not sure about the others) this year, for a home game feed. So I know that D* does have access to it for its sports packages, it just can't broadcast it fulltime like the other RSN's. I think they have used it for MLBEI last year.
D* receives the MSG-HD's via fiber, so I know that they could get CSN-P fulltime if they wanted to.

D* did have access to CSN Philly including their HD feeds in MLB EI last season your right.

I thought so, same with Cox 4 in San Diego, all via fiber. So I don't see how that "fiber only loophole" still holds up, but I guess they're grandfathered in. I've read on here that the loophole is suppose to expire this year, does anyone know if thats true?

Do you think there's any chance that Cox Sports New Orleans will ever go conus and be added to the sports pack?

Sure there is a chance, FSN West 2 (Now FSN Prime Ticket) was on a spotbeam for a long time and last year or so it went CONUS...
