DTV installed new HR-21 700 roughly 3 weeks ago but I am now getting HD channels sporadically I changed HDMI cord and thought the problem was fixed but it is back again. I have a 26" samsung w/monster HDMI cable. I change to a channel and no picture comes in and my tv message says not supported and I cant do anything like change channel on reciever etc. so then I switch over to the s-video input and the channels work on that input so I will switch to a different channel. I then go back to my HDMI input and put it on another HD channel and boom it will work.

Any suggestions like is it and hdmi problem with the samsung or maybe a native resolution being on or anything like that. I switched coaxs and b-band converters and still get same problem. I have also posted my signals in this forum and was told it is not an alignment problem because my signal is too strong.

Any suggested course of action would be appreciated.

so is it only happening with HD channels? because what it sounds like is a resolution compatibility issue... samsungs are known to have problems with 480i over HDMI... make sure that resolution is disabled in the HR21 menu...

As posted by airrocker, this is almost certainly the 480i issue common with Samsung TVs. Most of them do not support 480i resolution over HDMI. If you look in the manual for your TV, you will find this buried in the fine print somewhere instead of being in large type where people might notice it. The "not supported" message is generated by your TV when it receives a signal that it can't decode. Nothing to do with your DirecTV equipment.

Yes I have native on with all the resolutions checked,I am sorry as you are probably right as I went through the same thing with my hr20 and samsung in my bedroom and all I did was uncheck 480.

Thank you and I will try unchecking the 480 when I go home. I would still like to leave native on though.
