I'm thinking a move is in my future if I get a job I'm hoping for. I would be moving from the Boston area, to southern RI. I have questions about dishmover. I've been a dish customer for about 4 years and hope to continue to be.

1) Is there a time limit on disco to reco? How long do you get from the time you disconnect, to when you have to re-connect. I might end up in a temporary place until I find final quarters.

2) Is the 2nd dish covered in the move? I have a 61.5 dish pointed for my HiDef setup. Currently have 2 recievers setup and most likely would have 2 in the new place.

3) How hard is it really to get a sat. dish installed in an apartment complex. I know this one is subjective. I'd be moving from a old victorian house, to a apartment complex most likely. I know there are fed. rules that say I have the right to put up a dish, but is it really a hassle / worth it?

4) Worst case, anyone know anything about Cox cable in RI? yea, this is kina off topic, but it appears they are the predominate cable company down there.

5) any one with recent experiance with the dish mover plan? I would be interested in your experiance.

For an answer to most of your questions I suggest calling DISH Network they will be in the best position to give the answers. As far as apartment installations, generally you must have a view from your patio to the satellites many require that you do not attach to the apartment walls or railings. Also apartments don't necessarily use the local cable company some have private systems for the apartment complex only.

be careful with Dish Movers Program! I moved from one apartment in one state to another apartment in another state and the stupid installer they sent refused to do the installation because he could not ground the dish. He was very non-understanding about my situation either.

I was on a second floor with a patio and i wasn't allowed to run any cables down to the earth..so I ended up having to do it myself. Luckily Dish rescinded and didn't make me stay on for another 12 months and use the auto-pay etc etc since their installer didn't do his job. I did the install myself and just remained on my month-to-month.

(1) You can have a seasonal disconnect for $5 a month to avoid a $25 reconnection fee if you were to shut it off completely. I would do this option if you think it will be 1-4 months before reconnection of satellite tv. Beyond that point it would cost the same for the seasonal disconnect fee for 5 months as it would for the reconnection fee. The $5 fee just allows the account to stay on. I am not sure if they charge $5 per receiver or for the account. I am not sure if the $5 downgrade fee applies here. If so then I would only choose this option if you would be gone for 1-3 months. You can also keep your programming on if you think it will not be that long until you get another place, or drop your programming package back to the basic package. You may want to make sure that you can get a signal in the new location as well.

(2) As far as I know the second dish is not included in the Dish Mover's Program because it is not a basic installation. Anytime the install requires more than what is normally required with a basic install there will be an extra charge such as extra wiring, wallfish, extra dishes, etc. because there are two dishes with more wires and more work involved for two dishes than one. If you have locals available for the area and there are locals on the 61.5 slot then this may be an exception where they may be required to put the dish up for you, if you would subscribe to the locals in that area if available.

(3) Just as you have rights to put up a satellite dish, the landlord has the right to tell you not to attach it to anything on the apartment that would cause holes or damage to their structure. You can do the pole in a bucket with concrete or blocks to hold a tripod down or have it hang from the glass from suction cups that a company sells. You can get a device that transmits the signal through the window without putting any holes in the apartment building or get flatwire to put in a window or door to get the signal from outside to inside the apartment to the satellite receiver. You can also get a flat pannel array which is much smaller than a dish and find a place to put that. Some even say they can get a signal through a window although it is more difficult and will result in lower signal quality. Since you have a second dish then you would have to do all of this for the second dish as well in which is twice the work. I know of some that do have satellite's at apartments. Some allow it to be on a pole and one could have the wire run down to the pole where the dish would be at. You could even put two dishes on one pole in some cases.

(4) If you sign up for the Dish Movers Plan then you would have to take top 150 programming package for a year and do credit card autopay to get the free basic installation. If you do not do credit card autopay then they charge $25. There is a penalty if you do not keep the top 150 for a year. If this is an installation beyond basic then they will charge you the difference.

Thanks everyone for you input. And thanks Jacob for the direct and detailed answers. Almost sounds like the dish mover is not worth it? If I can put dish in the new place, I would want the 2nd dish for HD. Don't know what the locals situation down there is, I'll check that one out. Right now, one of my dishes is in a bucket with cement so that might be a way to go. Hell, it's the 61.5 dish that's in the bucket, maybe i should take that one with me? !
I also just remembered I'm a dish club member, I think that had a dishmover perk as part of the deal. Hmm more things to go research.... thanks everyone.
