I guess TiVo realized that they were not getting alot of Series 2 purchases due to the fact that people didn't want to pay for another Lifetime sub.

They will allow you a onetime transfer of a lifetime sub to a SA TiVo Series-2. Don't know the details, but there is a limited time this will occur, and you might have to buy directly from them as opposed to bestbuy or some place like that.
I'm torn... Don't want to spend another $350 for a new unit, but upgrading to include a network card and a bigger drive would cost over $200 so maybe better to get a new unit???
