View Full Version : Any alternative to MFH2?

OK so a DirectTV tech just left & hacked into the single MDU dish to just get me all the HD channels by splicing a Zinwell multiswitch into the dish.

So I get all the HD channels, but I know my neighbors only get like 10 or so HD channels.

Now I live in a building with only 8 condos... and I know that not everyone has an HD box, but some do.

Instead of getting an expensive MFH-2 type system setup, is there a more cost effective alternative to get us all the HD channels?

Can they just run 2 different 5lnb dishes with a single SWM-8 for each dish? Then feed the output into each unit? I think each unit already has 2 coaxs that say DMark coming from the roof already.

If the HOA can break the contract with the MDU provider, then DirectTV can supply the dishes as a free upgrade for HD use... then all we need are the SWM-8's right?

My guess... is that this is going to be quickly changed... as he introduce a possible issue to the MDU setup... with that multiswitch is passive....

But anyway.

8 Condos...

All you would really need to do is get a WB616 for 16 outputs... you could then feed 4 SWM8... that would give each unit at least 4 tuners each, if not more

You only need 1 dish.

Today's Skyreport (http://www.skyreport.com/#article7) had a blurb about what should be a cheaper approach than MFH-2 for lighter-weight systems.

So the WB616 is really just a larger multiswitcher than what the tech spliced into the system then? Then everyone that wants HD can hook up an SWM8 to the output side of that where as the rest of the people that don't really care can just hook up a regular coax to the end of that WB616?

BTW, I only have that direct line coming in to give my HDDVR a single antenna to use, but it appears that I get all the HD channels now... never knew SPEED TV could look and sound sooo good in HD and Dolby Digital!!! & I know that I can't watch one show and record another show, but the trade off to get all the HD channels is worth it to me.

Our regular DVR that is in the bedroom still gets its feed off of the MFH1 setup and it seems to be getting all the channels with no problem... so I am assuming it should be that way for the rest of the building. Per the tech he states that it should affect no one else.

BTW I wouldn't have needed this as an option if the MDU provider would set things right in the first place and do what it takes to upgrade us all to HD.

Hot off the press!
Looks good for your situation BUT availability is always the question recently!

Is it me or are these solutions pretty much similar to getting a WB616 and plugging SWM8's to the end of it?

What would the cost be you think for some of these cheaper alternatives?
