Feel free to bounce this to wherever you feel appropriate. I don't post much of anything anywhere. I just like to read. Anyway, after jumping from Charter to Dtv, I'm generally happy. I'm just missing CBS, ABC and NBC in HD. I at least was able to get a waiver for FOX. No luck with antennae.

I'm on round two of waivers and trying to buy lunch for the "approvers" at the other stations to get one from them. Reading Dtv's site, they say local HD in 76 markets (mid-year). Which ones basically? Springfield, MA ranks 109, so does that mean I'm %$#t out of luck? Or can I hope?

Our local CBS shop, WSHM, is supposedly going all digital anyday now. I was "informed" that we would be able to get it in HD, ie, they would "provide a signal to Dtv." Unless they have something worked out with Dtv already, isn't that up to Dtv if they want to carry the HD signal or not?

Thanks!

No luck with antennae.

What have you tried for antennae? Was it directional? UHF and/or VHF?

I can get all your Springfield stations from the greater-Hartford area. I do have trouble with WGBY, but everything else I get is extremely reliable. Granted, I've got a pretty big antenna in my attic, but you should still be able to do well in western Mass. I have a pretty big antenna in the attic, but I figure you have to be able to do better in western Mass unless you're in a deep valley.

The problem is that its the "Pioneer Valley." So your mileage will vary quite a bit. Another problem is that depending where you are channels are pretty directional. I had to change my antenna almost 90 degrees between getting channel 22 and 40. Yet for you it's probably pretty much just north of you for both. I know while I was doing OTA 40 was pretty low on the power output. Maybe they've cranked it up since then. In the same way for me all of the CT stations are pretty much just south. In fact they almost all just happen to lie directly on the path of my dish, so the cheapo terk attach to the dish antenna actually brought in all of hte CT channels better than it did the MA.

As for the springfield version of channel 3, forget about it. It's just a little sister station of wfsb in hartford and has the bare minimum power output allowable. If they could have legally not put up an antenna at all they would have.

Yup same boat here , just converted from dish, but I kept charter mini basic. The good news is with my Sony Bravia BR4 which has a built in hidef I pick up the local hidef channels off their wire as its not blocked along with espnhd also. Mini basic is just supposed to receive the locals and a few more but I let my hidef tuner scan their network and now pick up the digital hidef locals which are apparently not blocked , cost $11.00 .

Where exactly are you? OTA can be great and terrible just miles away, on the hill in Turners Falls reception was great But 3 miles away in downtown Turners Falls there was no reception except cable. Pioneer Valley is a big general area and Terk antennas are CRAP.

this is not a replay but im wondering if springfield-holyoke area would get the cw on dtv if we can get fox 61 from hartford why we dont get the cw i mean fox 61 and cw 20 are owned by same company and for hd i dont think wwlp will ever apear on dtv because of lin people so anyone from springfield area have gotten a waiver to get cw from baltimore (channel 385)

We might be screwed im springfield, from what i understand all of directv feeds(wggb, wgby and whsm) come from wwlp 22's chicopee office. wwlp is a LIN broadcasting station and they dont like to play nice with other cable providers. Best case seniero is we get them when d11 is lit up. But im 99% sure we will never get wwlp 22. Also we are getting a new fox station for our dma, the people at wggb will be runing it. so we wont be able to get wtiv61 anymore for fox.

Hang on a little bit longer. Springfield/Holyoke HD locals are on the way. The equipment that collects the local signals and sends them to the satellites to be rebroadcast has been installed and tested- While there is a chance it will happen sooner look for it when the satellite that launches tomorrow goes live.

NBC will probably 30 out of Hartford

Well, now that is most certainly interesting and encouraging! Thanks for that post! And yes, I'm from Belchertown.

How strong is the CBS3 SIGNAL (41-1) ? I get all the others via OTA on my hr20 (22-1 , 40-1,57-1 ect...) but its shows no signal for 41-1.... I am surprised that this channel was put in the OTA database on the HR20.

That wont happen unless wwlp22 waves there hd rights to the springfield DMA. And i doubt there will give up all the house holds there current market.

What looks interesting is dish has made a deal recently with LIN. Our only hope is directv does the same to get NBC

Screw LIN. I only watch ABC out of Springfield because of them. I even went as far as to delete the SD Ch. 8 feed of my favorites list and just have 40-1 for ABC that I get OTA. Get yourself a nice long range antenna and try to pick up ch 30. Don't give any of those jerks your eyeballs.

I'm in Agawam and thru my OTA I get 3,22,40,57,61,30,18 with no prob at all. All going thru my H20. Will have to check out 41-1

You may have seen the other posts about Dtv's agreement with LIN. WWLP is part of that deal and we might start to see WWLP in HD any day now. Be nice to get WSHM and WGGB going too.

Agawam here also. I get all my locals ota on 2 HR20's. (living room and bedroom)
I don't get WSHM on 41.1 though. I can't bring in WTNH, but i do need to do some tweaking with my antenna.

WTNH will be tough to pick up in Mass. I know people in Farmington which is only about 25 miles north of WTNH's transmitter and they get no signal at all. I have also heard of other people in central CT having problems with that signal.

Fortunately, i don't really watch ABC. The only reason i've watched it recently was for the NBA Finals. (Go Celtics...:D )
I used to live 10 miles north where i live now and i could get a signal in the teens for WTNH, i'll try to tweak the antenna and see if i can a better signal. If not, no big deal.
