Is it just me or is anyone else Platinum Plus Remote slowly turning into a Grey Plus Remote as the "platinum" paint wears off.  So far its just on the sides but is starting to where around the skip forward button. Hope all the text doesn't wear off the top.

It is not just you. Mine is losing paint and
my kid scratched the E* logo off the
bottom with a pen knife.

We have two of these remotes -- one is flaking like crazy and the other looks good. My mother in law uses a lot of hand lotions and I noticed that the one with the worst problems seemed to be the one she was using -- so lets say that it probably doesn't hold up under handle hand lotions very well. Maybe its just wear and tear. I don't care how ugly they look as long as they keep working.

I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the platinum was wearing off the right side edge on mine. Shows just a little wear on the left side.

Maybe some Rhino lining for the remote is needed? ;)

I have not had mine long enough for anything to flake off. When I first saw the "platinum" remote I was a little concerned about the "platinum" wearing off and these post have confirmed my concerns.

I would much rather have a black remote with more color coded buttons (like the old Primestar remotes) than a remote where the paint rubs off after a few months.

I don't know why the vendors think that the remote has to match the receiver color (from a person that often wears a brown belt with black shoes). I would much prefer function over fashion.

I don't think Dish thinks that way; after all the 50x have the platinum remote and are black. The 701's remote is different than the 50x, as it has the PIP buttons.

I agree painted remotes are a bad idea - cast the color into the plastic, like Philips does with the silver Pronto's.

I agree, there should be a casting of the color into the plastic instead of being painted so the numbers will not rub off. I have seen lots of customers have the numbers wear off the remote. Looks like the same thing that my cordless phone is doing. I put one or two plastic bags over each remote that I have to keep them in new condition, and it works, when I take the bags off to change the batteries they still look like brand new. I use the plastic bags that new remotes come in. This is what I suggest.

What's the point of keeping it new looking if all you get to look at most of the time is a remote in a plastic wrapper? lol ;)
Sorry, just seemed funny. :)

Because it also helps to not rub off the print or paint on the remote so that you can see the numbers on the buttons, and if someone spills things on the remote the plastic will protect it.

I only use universal (learning) remotes, so my original remotes barely get touched (only to program the universal remotes) The fact that my "Prism" by Panasonic TV isn't supported properly by the UHF remotes (but fine with the IR only) makes the Universal remotes even better :D

Is there any cones (prisms) that will extend UHF remote range just as the IR cones do? Some type of repeater system or something like that?

The easiest way to increase the range of an UHF remote is to put a bigger UHF antenna on the receiver, possibly one with a signal amplifier put in.

Another alternative is to get an external IR to RF converter, on the assumption that it has more power than the RF emiter built into the remote. I'm not sure I'd trust this though.
