View Full Version : HR21-100... slow channel surfing?

I just had an HR21 installed yesterday. I am switching from a Comcast SA 3800 HD-DVR and that is my point of reference for response time for menus and changing channels.

My HR21 responds somewhat more slowly to menu and guide selections than the SA 3800 but channel surfing is absolutely painful using the Channel UP / DOWN buttons in comparison.

When I press Channel UP on the HR21, the channel banner for the current channel pops up, the screen goes black, the LED ring light starts to spin, the channel banner changes to new channel when LED is at the 5 o'clock position and finally the channel video shows up about when the LED ring reaches the 11 o'clock position. This takes a good 4 seconds or so for *each* and every channel change regardless of whether it is an SD or HD channel.

Is this how long going from channel to channel is supposed to take?

I read through the posts regarding slow responses and did not find this question addressed previously.

Thanks

Bill

That sounds about typical for a channel change when using "native off" - generally 3 seconds but it can vary depending on whether the next channel is HD or SD or on the same sat as the previous channel.

Thanks for the reply... I guess I'll have to do my surfing using the Guide rather than just browsing the channels. Still better than dealing with Comcast any more.

Most people who use the HR20 for live TV have gone to using the guide to surf. You can also pop up a mini guide by pressing BLUE while in live TV.
