I'd like to recommend the board software to someone.

We are running a heavily modded version of Vbulletin. You will notice that we have more bells and whistles then Vbulleting does out of the box. :)

Very nice software.

Are the bells and whistles third-party enhancements, or developed by vBulletin, or perhaps both? Are they widely available?

And how stable is the system? It seems very stable to me, I never notice any problems here or at the other boards that use vBulletin.

Thanks.

Both, when your a registered vbulletin owner you can download "hacks" to add to your system, some of the things here we have written custom for DBSTalk.COM so you won't find them anywhere else. :D

The system is very stable, we have had over 900 people online here at one time and the system did not even slow down. :)

Just out of curiosity, what sort of hardware is running on, with what sort of internet connection? That info helps give some idea of the scalability or load handling of vbulletin.

Our server is an Intel Pentium III with high-speed SCSI drives. The operating system is Red Hat Linux running Apache Web Server. This is a fairly typical web server setup
Our network consists of a redundant Gig-E network connection.

Like Scott said, at one time we have over 900 users online all at the same time and never had any bottlenecks.
