So what is the deal with NBC and CBS not showing up as locals being offered?

A satellite company that offers local-into-local service must provide its subscribers with any local station that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has assigned to the same DMA, and that has asked to be carried by the satellite company in that DMA. (Please note: A satellite company is not obligated to carry more than one local TV station that is affiliated with a particular TV network in the same state.)

So why isn't CBS and NBC not showing up on DirecTV?

Local stations have 2 options for satellite carriage:
* "must carry" -- the station simply states "you have to carry my signal because you offer the signal of a competitor". In this case, the station gets no money from the satellite company.
* negotiation -- the station forsakes "must carry", instead opting for contract negotiations (read: $$$). However, if they can't reach a contract, they don't get carriage.

The deadline for "must-carry" is set as a certain number of days after the public announcement of adding the local channel market. I don't know what that deadline is.


So, either the "must-carry" deadline hasn't passed, or those 2 stations opted to negotiate money for carriage rights.

Ok - checked witht the engineer with one of the stations and he said the equipment was in place and operational but didn't know why DirecTV hasn't added their channel yet. So that is good news in some aspects but still could be legal or technical on DirecTV end.

KWES and KOSA are the only stations locally broadcastng in multiple sub channels so that could be the reson...

Looks like Dish just lost one of my reasons for sticking with them. I just upgraded to HD so I'm stuck with them for awhile. But thats good for the D* subs.

Now it looks like we both need HD Locals.
