I have been trying off and on for four days to connect this thing to my home network. I go through all of the setup using the CD that came with, and it always says it was successful, but I cant see it on my home network and it will not connect the HR20 to the Internet. I get code (22) error message. Directv tech support is no help. They recommend using a wired connection or the home wiring option, but if it is so hard to connect wirelessly, why is that even an option? As you probably know, the usb port on the HR20 is inactive. HELP!!

Let me start off with saying it is not imposible on what you are trying to achive. I am not sure where you see that wireless is listed as an option. The option is only if the owner wants to do it that way. In my signature is a link for network help. Click on that and read the thread. I know it is long, but it may get you going. Some people have plugged in the WGA54ag and it works perfect for them right off the bat. Some people plug it in and it just will not work for them. No solid reason has been logically explained or posted that has give me the information on why that is.
First off, you are using a game adapter. That equipment is basically an ethernet bridge with a couple of selections that make it more spedific to work on a Xbox. That selection is the clone mode. It has to be in clone mode when plugged into a Xbox. I personally do not like clone mode because I am a network freak. On a boring day I may hook up a managed switch and watch a mirrored port on it and see what traffic is being passed from devices I have put on my network, but I still have a real life.
Honestly, try the link in my signature. There is a pdf that even has step-by-step pictures of a WET54g bridge that is very close to a WGA54g piece of equipment. You may want to check linksys.com and make sure you have ALL the updates for the WGA54g and the OEM of the wireless router you are using so that the WGA54g can get to the internet.
Your next post needs to be either, "I got it working" or
IP Address of router
Brand
Model
IP Address of WGA54g
Are you using DHCP
Does the HR20 have an address in your DHCP range
Can you access the WGA54g with a browser when hooked to the HR20
Try assigning static IP's to the HR20 and the WAP54g
