I live in a market where we receive both the Hartford/New Haven CT locals, as well as SV locals from New York City. I know a lot of you would love to be able to get SV channels, but most markets don't seem to have them.

That aside, my question is does anyone know if those who do receive SV channels should also be able to get their HD counterparts? It's not a big deal if they don't, I'm just curious.

SV= significantly viewed. IE: adjacent DMA channels.

BUT, VOS knows this. He just wanted it spelled out for others here. :)

 actually, no I didn't, but adjacent DMA channels are only going to be OTA.

Well, there is discussion that DirecTV may be able to provide the SVs that can be received OTA in adjacent DMAs. Of course, it may depend on if the main DMA stations will allow it.

Which in most cases is probably, no. I remember reading somewhere that people in the New Haven area lost WCBS from their cable system because local WFSB from Hartford protested.

SV channels are determined by the friendly folks at the Nielsen company. Yes, the ratings people.

DirecTV has the right to provide SV channels but most often do not. I wish they would do so in my market (Baltimore market with most DC channels considered SV by Nielsen).

I was wondering about the same thing because right now D* Provides me with Raleigh, NC locals plus two SV channels from Roanoke, VA and one SV channel from Richmond and I would to have the HD versions of those channels when D* adds HD local service to those two cities.
