View Full Version : Adding a receiver. What will it cost, if anything?
Not sure where this one belongs, so here it is.
I currently have a HR20 (2 lines), and a standard DVR (1 line). I am considering adding another line to my dish and another standard DVR. Having not ever added equipment to my account/setup, will DirecTV charge me for an addition standard DVR? I don't mean the addition $5/month for a receiver, I mean a charge like me buying a receiver initially.
Thanks.

It really depends on your history with them - best idea is to call and ask what kind of deal they can provide you.
I have been a customer for 10 years, w/o any problems (late bills, etc...). I just hate calling them and playing the "What knucklehead am I getting on the phone" lottery. When I was upgrading to HD, I had to call back a few times before I got connected to a person who; a) Knew what they were talking about, and b)I could actually understand.

I understand your concern and you, like most, would like to go into the conversation knowing that you will get "XYZ receiver" at "$XYZ". It just doesn't happen anymore - unless you're expecting to pay full price.
If you don't like the offer they're making you it's always your option to say no thanks.

you can expect to pay 99 for a standard DVR plus the 19.95 shipping charge. if you install that will be it. IF they install the install is 99 as well, Go to best buy, walmart etc to save the shipping.

JS29,
If you are registered at DirecTV.com for account access, you could go in there and choose whatever option it is (sorry, can't remember) to ADD EQUIPMENT or UPGRADE YOUR SYSTEM or something like that. When you pull up the list of receivers it will show you the price you would pay for each. If there's an "automatic" based on your account factors, it would likely be reflected there. If what you see there are all the standard prices (which is probably likely), the only way to get a better deal (directly from DirecTV) is by calling. They do seem to "sell" them a little cheaper at Costco, based on the threads I've read.
Are you able to run the needed line yourself?

Yes, no problem running the line myself. I guess I will call and see. Or, maybe I will just use one of the standard non-DVR receivers I have left over from my big upgrade.
Thanks all!
