I started to have an occassional problem with local HD stations where the picture would turn gray along with the audio being interupted. This would last for a split second and then return to normal, although rarely the picture would freeze and the audio would be fine. It was very intermittent at first and seemed to occur on windy days only. I would also sometimes get the 771, searching for satellite error.
I have an HR20 and HR10 hooked up to the same tv. I also have an HR21 hooked up to a different tv. I was seeing this on both HR2x units which led me to believe that there was likely a dish alignment problem although the signal strength did not seem all that bad. To try and make a long story short, it got to a point where I could no longer watch March Madness in HD because it was breaking up so badly. At this point I was desparate.
I scheduled a service call along with the free upgrade of the HR10 to an HR21. Today there is no wind and everything seemed to be fine before the tech came to switch out the old dvr and perform a dish aligment. An additional brace was put on the dish for more support along with the alignment resulting in the signal strength going up about 20% overall. He aslo swapped out the old dvr. Soon after he left, I started to see breaking up of the video signal again on local HD channels where the picture turned gray and audio dropped, although there is no wind at all. I checked the signal strength and it was still the same as he left it.
So now I have a new HR21 and my older HR20 hooked up to the same TV in my living room. I do not see this problem on the new HR21 at all. I swapped my wiring with the two units to see if the problem would follow the receiver or not. It definately followed the HR20 indicating a likely HR20 problem. I have a new one being sent. I want to see if there have been other reported issues with this subject to see if the feeling is a new receiver will correct my problem.
I believe I had two separate issues where there was definately a slight alignment problem but also something going on with my HR20.
