I have a question for the members of this community regarding the HR-21.
I have it on a wired network and it's connected to the internet successfully. I'm trying to access the content recorded on it through the network however I have no idea where to start. I know its IP address however it does not respond to pings or port scans (assuming it's turned off). I'm trying to do this with a Mac if possible however can use Windows if necessary...I'm kinda hoping I can just access the hard drive and download/decode the files manually. Any help would be awesome, thanks!

What you are attempting to do is not possible. If it is possible, it starts getting into hacking discussions about how to break the file system, and stuff like that is not allowed on this forum.

A recent CE release for the HR2x receivers enabled ping replies, so if you're running a national version your receiver would not reply to pings yet.

The only thing you can do over the network right now is download DirecTV onDemand content and access music pictures and video from your computer and play them on the HR2x.

If you want, you can get a Slingbox which will give you the capability you seek. The next-generation ones will even allow you to stream HD. One more thing, the Slingplayer for Mac is very slick.
