Does anyone know the answer to this question? The Starz and Showtime VOD is very nice, but HBO/FX and not to mention the locals would make it great.

Thanx

The locals won't be on VOD now or any time in the future.

Why's that?

Why's that?

Do you really think DIRECTV will provide local channels on VOD for every city in the United States ?

Networks are the same across america and so are a numbe of locals. It's only server space

I took his post to mean "network programming" by locals - not literally his locals, like news and... well, what else does a network produce and only carry locally?

The OP said "locals" didn't say "national networks".

getting back to the title of the thread...any news on HBO and FX? I'd love to have "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" available on demand.

I don't know that there is any "local" VOD even on cable. It is logical to assume that the OP meant content from CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, CW.

Fair enough...

"Locals" will probably never be n DoD.

National Networks (and their primetime programming)... are very good possibility.

It does seem strange that no HBO VOD is available on DirecTV yet

HBO VOD was available on my Adelphia cable system almost two years ago.

That's one of the few good things I can say about Adelphia.

Is that a guess or based on inside knowledge? I would think that network affiliates would have a major problem with this. This would almost be the equivalent of them all beng forced to give a waiver to receive out of market programming.

DirecTv (and Dish) do not have the bandwidth to implement true VOD like the cable companies can. The best they could do is download stuff to the hard drive of DVRs, and you should see the crap Dish got for doing that.

BTW, while on a trip and sampling the Time Warner VOD, there were no ABC / CBS / NBC / FOX VOD, and no local channel VOD. And during peak times in the evening and on weekends, HBO VOD had a lot of freezing / breakup problems.

As far as "out-of-market", it would likely be handled just like current channels are - if you can't receive the channel in your package, you can't see it On Demand. (Ex: Showtime, Food, etc.)

Until DirecTV steps up their VOD offerings, check out hulu for a little sunshine in Philly...

The issue is about Digital Rights Management (DRM)...not about disk space: the latter is cheaper than the first.

Thanks for reminding me about that site. Really enjoyed watching some In Living Color clips.

Yeah, they have some great shows there and I'm still amazed at the quality (see what some guaranteed advertising dollars will get you).

Now if only some smart suit would link something like hulu to my TV via a DVR instead of my HTPC, then we will have something.
