View Full Version : Cyclic Audio Drop outs & pixillation

Recently I am experiencing major audio drop outs and pixillation on HD channels particularly channels 76-88. Problem doesn't occur on all channels at once and seems to come and go even in clear sky. When it happens dropouts occur every 15 seconds or so in a routine cyclic fashion. 103c signal ranges from 73-83 which it has been since installation a year ago, all other sat's are 85+. Test channels 480-494 OK. Any got an idea if this a software, receiver, cabling or LNB issue?

Congrats on your first post! I would look again at the sat signals for 110 and 119 (I think, anyone feel free to correct me) and also at anything that might be in the line of sight of the dish, not just directly but off to an angle.

As Stuart points out, those channels are beamed from 110 and 119-deg W satellites. Next time you see the problem, check your signal readings and post back your results here. That's the most likely cause, although any of the things you mention can cause this problem. Do you have other Receivers/DVRs? Do they also have this problem?

Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable). You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength".

Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples:

These are tuner 1 readings, tuner 2 readings are almost +/-2 points. I wonder if this is related to the HR21 audio dropout issue widely posted. But the HR10-700 software OX1FE was downloaded on 2/14 and had no dropouts until mid March.

There's nothing really obvious with your signal strengths. With all the hopefully temporary software issues lately, troubleshooting reception problems gets a little a little dicey these days. :)

There are, however, some oddities. With those 101 and 119 signals, you shouldn't have 110 signals down in the 70's unless there's some partial LOS problem at that AZ. It's not impossible that you have some LNB problem, particularly with the built-in multi-switch. The cyclic nature of the problem indicates it's some issue either in the LNB or the receiver. It would be good to test this installation with another receiver, if you can borrow one, since I gather this is your only HD receiver. I don't like those 110 signals, though. They're not low enough to cause reception problems in normal weather, but they're indicative of something strange going on....

In general, your alignment for the Ka signals is a tad off and could be improved such that your 103(c)'s are mostly all in the 90's. No biggie.
