View Full Version : Thread Limitations / Censorship?
Obviously, there are numerous threads relating to the lack of new HD channels in general as well as specific HD channels that have yet to be added. This volume seems to annoy the moderators who are quick to either criticize comments as irrelevant or redundant and / or close the thread.
Thus, I have to ask - What the heck else is there to discuss then?
Are we limited to simply regurgitating the worthless press releases of Dish or posting uninformed & unsupported comments regarding its annual report?
Did I miss something in my Dish subscriber agreement and / or the registration screens for this forum? Did I agree to only make supportive comments about my satellite services provider?
I agree with the staff here when it comes to that subject.
I, for one, really hate all the whiny complainers and I have never seen where REAL problems are censored here.

I personally get tired of the same regurgitated "I don't have" posts. Threre are already a couple of threads that they should be restricted to.

It's not really censorship to be told "you can talk about this over there but not here". It's just a means of making sure that people who don't want to read it, don't have to, and those who do want to read it, can.
This volume seems to annoy the moderators who are quick to either criticize comments as irrelevant or redundant and / or close the thread. As it was made quite clear that discussions of a particular type should be held in a specific thread, I'm not sure what your beef is. The goal is not to have the recent page dominated with different versions of the same issue.
You can only express your disdain for the lack of SciFi HD on E* or Dual Live Buffers on D* DVRs in so many ways before the discussion isn't moving forward. Sprouting a new thread has a very small chance of bringing any new arguments or insights.

All the other replies so far have been spot on... and I would add two more things:
1. Technically speaking, this thread is a no-no because it is questioning moderation and that should be handled with a PM to one of the moderators.
2. "Censorship" doesn't apply here because this is not like a library or something. This is more akin to being in someone else's house. IF you come in my house, you are subject to my house rules... same for posting on a public forum, you are subject to the rules (which you have to agree to and presumably read/understand when you sign up for an account).
That said... Again, I haven't seen what I'd consider censorship anyway... just a stronger desire sometimes to try and keep threads on-topic and not have splintered discussions across multiple threads.

This thread should be closed and all subsequent posts made to the "The 'No Whining' Whining Thread".
Anyone else who creates a whining thread about no-whining should be banned and their pets executed. We should not stand for this duplicity!

As a staff... we made the decision that we didn't need 2,000 threads that are discussion the same fundemental "same thing".
So yes, we have made a decision as a site and staff, to keep all those discussion in the same place. The indvidual threads, for those topics.
You are more then welcome to continue the discussions in the appropriate spots.
We do not want entire page fulls of the "venting" threads, where other discussion topics can be lost or not seen.
As is the rule with our forum, discussion of how the forum is run, or the actions of Mods/Admins are to be disussed via PM, and not via public threads.
So if you have an questions or concerns, contact one of the MODS or ADMINS via PM, and we will be happy to dicuss it with you further.
