View Full Version : No audio when turning on HR20-100 until channel changes

I've got an HR20-100, software version 0x12a, and I've just recently been having this annoying audio problem: Occasionally, but not always, when I wake the system up from its 'sleep' state, I will have no audio on the channel that it was left on. As soon as I change the channel, the audio comes in, and when I go back the original channel the audio is fine as well.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks

What brand/model TV do you have? How is the DVR connected to your TV? This could be an HDMI handshake problem between your DVR and TV.

I have this same issue. I was going to call D, but thinking of what a nightmare that would be, I decided against it. When turning on the unit, actually returning from standby I suppose is more correct, there is no sound until I do [I]something[I], change channel, look at guide, etc.
My HR20 is connected to the TV with HDMI, and to a Sony A/V receiver with optical. Seems more like an internal mute when off (?) issue, than an HDMI issue.

For whatever its worth, I have experienced this with my HR20-700 on occasion and I am using a toslink optical cable to my audio system. But, this has occurred so infrequently, I have not considered it much of an issue. I have had my unit for some 16 months and I can count the number of times this has occurred on one hand.
However, my D11-100 SD receiver, with an RF coax connection to the tv, this is an every day problem. But, since I almost always change channels after I turn it on, no harm, no foul.
But, this does seem to be an issue with several D* receivers.

Me too. Pioneer audio receiver via toslink. I'd guess it started happening about a month ago. I've had my HR-20 since last October. Pause then Play makes the audio come on.

I get the same exact problem with one exception. Happens only when audio is connected to Denon AVR2800. Have not experienced this problem with denon off and audio via HDMI directly to my Plasma.
I have it too but it's a recent problem. My current set-up has worked fine until the past few weeks. Makes me believe it's a DTV issue with the HR20 code and not an existing HDMI handshake issue but perhaps a new one introduced.

I have this upon occasion, too. I'm sure it's a digital sync issue. My home theater and DVR don't agree on where the beginning of the bitstream is, and since the receiver is now seeing garbage, it's muting its output. Otherwise the noise it would put out could be nasty.
By switching channels, you allow the two to re-sync.
Short of adding a box between the two that would re-clock the signal coming from the DVR (a box that would cost a few hundred dollars), I'm not sure what can be done about this. It's a pretty minor annoyance in any case.

Yes, I have as well! It just started happening recently, not sure exactly when. I don't know off the top of my head what software version I'm on, but my issue is exactly the same. Mine is a HR20-700 though. The issue is very annoying!
