View Full Version : Tuner 2 771, why? I dont have a 2nd tuner.
1 of our HR20s just reset itself yesterday. After the reset it now thinks there are 2 lines from the sat but there is only 1. In fact it gets a signal on about half the transponders on tuner 2? No matter how many restarts I do, I cant get rid of the problem. Any ideas? Thanks.

Try disconnecting your Satellite cable, then Reset the DVR. Reconnect the Satellite cable and see if it's recognized as just one input. If not, your DVR has a defective second tuner.

One of my HR20-700 units has this problem after software upgrades. Although it is impossible to tell whether you have a defective unit, I can say that I have been able to clear this problem by forcing a download of software (reset, 0-2-4-6-8)...I keep doing it until the problem goes away...four times on the last one iirc.
I can confirm that you can see an unusual pattern of false tuner 2 signals that bounce around depending on when you test for signal strength. But I have seen this periodically since the beginning with this unit. All of my receivers are single connected.
Thanks to both of you for the advice. Re-downloading the software did the trick.

I do have a 2nd line installed and no matter what I do, I still get the dreaded message "Searching for signal on 2" 771...
What I have figured out is it's only on the HD channels that I get this message. When I use the Prev button to switch back and forth from 2 HD channels the first channel gets the message, but the second works --every time.
I've checked every connection from the dish to the HR20-700 at least twice. Tuner 2 shows considerably lower signals, even switching the cables on the inputs on the back of the receiver for the same result.
This started about a month ago... I'm getting annoyed and any help would be greatly appreciated.
This sounds like a bad tuner in your HR20. Do you have any other receivers? If you do, try moving it to that location of your HR20 and see if it works there.

I have the exact same problem and it seemed to have started when I hooked up the Directv on Demand. Did you by any chance hook up On Demand recently?

I've had this problem intermittently on an HR20-700 that has only one line connected. I usually get it after a forced CE software update and a reset has usually fixed it. I've always thought that going into Setup and re-doing the Satellite Setup should fix the problem too, perhaps more permanently, but I've never tried that. BTW, that unit has never had DoD active, since it's not networked.

I don't have DoD active either.... I have done the RBR several times, more than I can count actually.. I tried unplugging the receiver yesterday for an hour and then plugged it back... Same problem!
I did do a forced CE software update, but this started weeks before I did the update. I did the update hoping to fix the original issue.... no luck yet.

This sounds like a bad BBC.
Go back to where you're changing channels and getting 771 [which will show which tuner]. Then swap BBCs and see if it changes tuners. Don't reset anything else and be careful with the cables as they do have voltage on them.

Hey VOS - are you suggesting he swap the one BBC he has (remember, only a single line is connected to the box) with a second BBC?

"I do have a 2nd line installed " if this wasn't for the second tuner, then what can help is to install a BBC on the #2 SAT input to keep the #2 tuner "off line".

Oops, sorry. Missed that in the post you were quoting. I thought we were still all discussing dual-tuner receivers with only one line installed. D'oh!
Hi,
I've had the same problem. I have one cable coming to my HR20-100 and it's on IN1. I just finished a call w/ Cust Svc who said that because I don't have a cable on IN2, that's why I'm getting the message, and not getting the programs. Sounds like I got a load of bull, yes?

I had this problem for quite some time. Every time the power went out, I would have to reset the HR20 multiple times because I only have one line coming in and I would get an error on tuner 2 (just like the OP). Someone here suggested that i put a BBC on the second sat. input (although there is no line going in, just the BBC by itself, hanging there) and that completely fixed the problem. No more tuner 2 error.
