View Full Version : Will Dish carry MLB Extra Innings this season?
Anyone heard whether or not Dish Network will carry MLB Extra Innings? I am considering switching over from digital cable to Dish, but I want the MLB package so I will only switch if this is available. Is it likely this package will be coming since the NBA and NHL were picked up in the fall? I'd appreciate any info, thanks

While I realize that this doesn't answer your question, but is there a problem with subscribing to Directv? MLBEI is available for sure. With Dish not having access to YES network, it could be difficult to carry MLBEI.

This looks like bad news for Dish subs, at least for this year:
http://www.hughes.com/ir/pr/01_05_21_MLB.asp
Dated May 21, 2001, it says "The extension of the current rights agreement provides DIRECTV with exclusive mini-dish rights to the games for the 2001, 2002 and 2003 MLB regular seasons."
I emailed one of the MLB contacts on the press release, but after a week, I haven't heard anything back. :(
DirecTV has its Extra Innings subscription link updated for 2003, http://www.directvsports.com/Subscriptions/MLBExtraInnings/, but the season schedules are still empty.

What do you mean? Dish offers NBA League Pass without carrying YES or Comcast SportsNet Philly.

But MLB EI doesn't work the same way as NBA league pass. They use the actual FSN feeds.
NBA League Pass was supposedly an exclusive to Direct this year as well, but Dish ended up agreeing to a contract with them. Maybe the leagues can terminate these exclusive agreements at their own discretion? Hopefully it will be added before the season starts next month, I know Dish waited until the last minute to announce Center Ice and League Pass.
Karl - Not interested in Direct to be pefectly honest, I find their channel lineup to be lacking. I will be switching from digital cable, and Dish's channel lineup is much more up to par with what I get from my digital cable than what Direct offers. All I need to hear is that Dish will be carrying MLB EI and myself and quite a few others around here will be switching to Dish. Make it happen Dish!

Mike - Not to badger you, but what does Dish offer that Directv doesn't besides some additional public service and shopping channels? The channel lineups are pretty similar. If Style or the Men's Shopping Channel are deal breakers that prevent you from getting MLBEI, then that is your business. I just don't see enough difference in the basic channels (unless LIL is offered by Dish but not Directv) to use that to prevent you from getting MLBEI.

Look, you are not getting MLB EI this year. DirecTV has it for one more year.
Karl - Not really interested in either of the channels you mentioned, but Dish's premium packages are quite a bit better than Direct's from the comparison charts I have seen. I also remember Dish having more basic channels as well.
James - You are incorrect, I emailed MLB and they said Direct's exclusivity was for 2000, 2001, and 2002. So MLB is available to Dish this year.

The closest DISH is going to get to any kind of MLB EI type package are those cricket matches theyre showing right now......Other than that sub to Directv or wait until Charlie ponies up the cash....

Mike L, I hope your right on Dish having a chance on getting MLB EI. :) Based on the press release from Hughes it doesn't look good. :nono:
I'm in no hurry, but I am leaving the door open with the thought of possibly changing to DirecTV for their sports programming.
Time will tell. :)

Digital Satellite TV Leader Has Exclusive Mini-Dish Rights For Out-of-Market MLB Games
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - May 21, 2001 - DIRECTV, Inc., the nation's leading provider of digital satellite television service, and Major League Baseball announced today a multi-year agreement allowing DIRECTV to continue offering the MLB EXTRA INNINGSsm out-of-market regular-season game package to its customers. The extension of the current rights agreement provides DIRECTV with exclusive mini-dish rights to the games for the 2001, 2002 and 2003 MLB regular seasons.
I would love to have MLB EI, but it appears D* does have exclusive rights through 2003.

OK, so where is your backup? How about trying to add something to the thread instead of being a troll?

Dear Mr. Corn,
Thank you for your e-mail. The MLB has decided to extend their exclusive arrangement with another satellite provider. This arrangement will run through the year 2003. We regret that the MLB failed to see value in distributing their programming through many broadcast sources like DISH Network. We will continue negotiations with them and other sports broadcasters to bring you more coverage of your favorite teams in the future.

Here's a good Example of the "Dish MLB Poor Mans Package"
This is what I watch waiting for the 3 hr. blackout rule to lift or a rain delay ending to start.

You are obviously not part of that audience (and neither am I), but why the hostility? Why don't you please go back to the DirecTV fourms and leave those of us with Dish (most of whom are very happy with the service) alone?

jrbdmb, alot of these posts above were posted in fun (for a laugh). How can I put it " their rubbing salt in my wound". :D
These posts were directed to me.
I've made mention the fact I've considered changing to DirecTV, obviously I'm a huge sports fan, they know I'm jeolous over there MLB EI package and their March Madness package. Mainly above we were all kidding around and having some fun with it.

- get the multi-sports pack for $5.99/mo.
- watch NHL/NBA replays from Midnight to 8AM or so
- consume massive quantities of no-Doze to get through the day
