With 4 HD channels taken off of the old satellite. Will they apply more bandwidth to the rest? it seems they could increase the other 12 or 14 channels by 3mbps easy and make them close the the mpeg4 counterparts.

Any ideas?

Nope... Not yet... They freed up some space when they converted the channels from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4, but they are still broadcasting them from the same transponders right now, so not a huge amount of gain in bandwidth... And I suspect that the east coast DNS feeds will soon find a home in the 390's using the space saved from the switch....

The channels are still in MPEG-2. The duplication is done in your receiver, it is just channel mapping.

Actually, the LA HD DNS channels *were* converted to MPEG4. They are no longer available in MPEG2. You have to have an MPEG4 receiver now to get LA HD locals/DNS. BUT, they left them on the old sats so that you can still have a 3 LNB dish. This was done for MDU's that need more time to upgrade to the 5 LNB. But you still need an MPEG receiver.

I live in LA and I have to say ever since they took out the MPEG 2 channels my locals have looked a bit better.

Since yesterday? (as that is when the MPEG-2's where shutoff).

But you maybe have been using the MPEG-4 versions

I think they converted the bandwidth to more SD PPV channels, when adding in the new HD channels today, I noticed several SD PPV channels added to the channel edit list.
