Does it look better than ESPN HD?
I'm assuming it does, but just wanted to get some opionions. ESPN HD never looks stunning on my 60" SXRD, so I'm anxiously awaiting for it to be moved over to MPEG-4

Yeah, the MPEG4 HD really pops where the MPEG2 is decent.
ESPN2HD is still simulcasting ESPNews HD this week at 5am for 1 hr and for 15 mins after UEFA Champions League football in the afternoon.
Great time to compare and contrast MPEG2HD vs. MPEG4HD

It looks alot better to me.
.
Couldn't stand the SD ESPNews anymore, the PQ was horrible, was one of my favorite channels.
Well it is now one of my favorite channels again, it looks awesome!

Well, since they launched the new ESPNews, it's been awesome. With the new equipment, I think their SD channel has gotten better PQ. Not a lot, not comparable to the HD version, but better none-the-less. I haven't seen ESPNews HD, though I did catch the simulcast on ESPN2 the other day.
If you notice, the bottom line on the SD channel shows pictures of people as well.
I like the bottom line on both, by the way! But, can you call a bottom line a bottom line when it's on the top, left, and bottom of your screen? Haha.
yeah its great!!!!.... oh wait.... I have DISH, once again we didnt get squat.
I NEED to make the switch.

nice graphics column to the left.
A complete waste of space.
Provides no additional information (other than player photos) over the scroll line at the bottom of the new SD ESPNNews at the expense of making the space for video even smaller.
Very distracting. Headline News tried something like this and eventually decided it was bad.
Too Bloomberg like. Except with Bloomberg you are listening to a talking head not watching video.

I love it. Besides video highlights, I mostly listen to ESPN news anway. Love the info and stats on the left with news at the bottom. Once again one of my favorite channels.

I for one love the new look of espn news HD. The stuff on the left is a great use vs having black bars for SD content. The channel seems to really pop great PQ on my 720P set.

There is no reason they couldn't make the video you love even bigger and put the identical info from the left box in a scroll at the bottom (minus the player photos).
The extra space need to display the info at the left does nothing to increase the scroll speed of the information and only provides the additional benefit of showing player photos (and oh, I forgot, the program promos - like we need that).
Just plain stupid - as CNN Headline News found out and hopefully the conclusion ESPN News will reach eventually.
I am all for the additional HD content. I just don't want to be distracted from HD video with boxed info taking up 1/3 the page instead of scroll info at the bottom 15% of the page.
Perhaps the box is a concession to the people who have TVs with 15% overscan.

I think you might be wrong based on what Headline News did with that format.

Good news, you can still watch the SD version of ESPNews if you don't like the new left box.

A definite improvement, but the text at the bottom of the screen is too small; then again maybe I should get a bigger TV.

Although it took a little while to get used to, I like the new blue/silver color scheme of ESPNews.
As far as the extra graphics on the left, I like that, too. In addition to the extra tidbits of info shown there that aren't available on the SD feed (blue scroll), it's also easier on the eyes, as well. To me, it seems more natural to move your eyes from side to side to view the info on the left and the highlights on the right, than it is to go up and down.
By the way, anyone else here feel proud to be a D* sub every time the scroll on the bottom reads: "ESPNews HD now available on DirecTV..."?

You can't be serious? If so, you may have taken the term fanboy to a new level. Check out the thread about the class action suit if you want to come down out of the clouds.

I like the box on the left over the scroll because it gives me longer to read the info. Scroll moves to quick for my taste. And scroll requires my eyes to stay on the bottom line more than just having everything sit on the left for a few moments...
NOT the same scenario as Headline news.. This will stick in my opinion for quite a while...

Really? ESPN HD always looks stunning on my 60" SXRD. So does ESPNewsHD. I guess it is in the eye of the beholder. :D

I dunno man, I like it. It does a better job displaying the information, and it's easier to read. It's much more like CNBC+.
