I've noticed that my picture isn't looking as clear as it once did on some channels, but I seem to have all my channels? 103(c) 103(s) what does the letter stand for?

103(s) Tuner 1

1-8 0 0 0 0 0 0 n/a n/a

9-16 n/a n/a n/a n/a n/a n/a 0 51

17-24 80 99 48 67 37 0 92 0

25-32 n/a-all 8

103(s) Tuner 2

1-8 0 0 0 0 0 0 n/a n/a

9-16 n/a n/a n/a n/a n/a n/a 91 51

17-24 79 99 45 69 0 0 91 97

25-32 n/a-all 8

Signal strength for Tuner 1-2 are not acquired for transponder's 1-3. How many of these should I look up?

99(s) Tuner 1

1-8 80 96 0 95 86 95 n/a n/a

The rest all n/a's

99(s) Tuner 2

1-8 82 98 0 96 89 0 n/a n/a

The rest all n/a's

Signal strength for Tuner 1-2 for Trans 1 is between 80-82%
Signal strength for Tuner 1-2 for Trans 2 is 98% all
Trans 3 is not acquired.
Trans 4 is 95%

I know all my numbers where once very good, lowest was 80. Is it safe to assume that my dish has to be realigned? Why does it seem to take forever to check sat 103 and 99 when all the others just load right up for me?

S = spot beams.
C = CONUS [national]

What are your 103c levels?

The spot beams readings take forever because the software seems to need to scan all of the transponders before it reports the first, then needs to do it again to report the second and again to....

What do you mean by not as clear, if the signal is too low they should be dropping out on you.

I agree. We need more info before we can even think about trying to diagnose this.

What channels are you having the problem with? How exactly is it not as clear? Pixelation? Fuzzy ficture?

My lowest is 82, most of them are between 85-95. I never had any that where 48,37,45,69. My lowest before was 80 the last time I checked them out and now I have more 0's then before too.

By not as clear I mean they at times look like there overly compressed and that was never the case. When I switched from Comcast to Direct TV my channels where so much better then Comcast, my worst channel was NBC's HD for both companies. Now Fox looks worst then NBC and it started a couple of weeks ago. It really is disgusting to look at sometimes. Right now on HGTV HD you see all the extra noise in the picture when they speed up or make quick movements and it was never the case before.

It doesn't look like your dish is out of alignment.

Even with those low numbers? Any other ideas in why my picture would be so bad? My TV looks the same for everything else that is shown on it, PS3, Blu-Ray,Xbox360, Wii.

Have I miss understood: "My lowest is 82, most of them are between 85-95."? "those" aren't bad enough to cause signal loss. If you had micro-blocking, where you were losing "bits" I would look harder, but from what you've described [fast camera pans] these aren't a signal issue, but more in the MPEG-4 encoding.

This may be a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway. What resolution do you have your receiver set on?

Which would be a box issue? Yeah I'm not loosing bits, just clarity in the picture at times.

What would case the picture to change?

All the above 480i-480p-720p-1080i output.

"decoding" is done by a chip inside the box, but "encoding" is done by DirecTV in their uplink. "I think" what you're seeing is in the encoding [so there is little you can do but complain to DirecTV].

Yeah, I knew it was probably a dumb question with that you are seeing.

I just was making sure to rule out what I have done on more than one occasion when upgrading someone. The conversation usually goes something like this.

Cust: Will I be able to tell a difference between SD and HD?
Me: Sure, here is your SD feed and (channel down pressed) here is your HD feed.
Cust: It looks the same.
Me: That's because I'm an idiot. I have the resolution set to 480i.

I have and they just told me to reboot my box :(
