View Full Version : Can a bad LNB still look good to an AcuTrac meter?

Like many folks on here, I'm at my wits end trying to diagnose a problem.

My HR20 shows zeros on all TP, all satellites.

We had heavy winds yesterday, so I went up on the ladder and carefully realigned the dish using an AcuTrac22 Pro. It wasn't far off so I was a bit suspicious it wasn't the problem.

Sure enough, still all zeros when I get back to the box. So I check all connections, testing for voltage at each junction. I have volts everywhere up to the LNB.

So I thought "Maybe a bad box" so I drag out my old H10, hook it up and get all zeros too.

So I'm thinking bad LNB - but if it's a bad LNB why did the realign with the AcuTrac work??

Anyone experience a similar situation?

were you using the same output from the dish? or were you using a "free" spot?

Same output - I was originally setup for an H20 so they only ran one line and that's the line I hook the meter up to.

Should I try another port? Didn't think of that...

But why would the meter still work? That's what has me stumped...

Could be a bad coax. It is possible that the coax will function at DC but not pass the high frequency IF from the LNB. Try a temporary coax run from the antenna to the receiver.

Have you tried your meter from the receiver location?

Thanks eakes....I'll try the meter test first as that's easier....

If you have to get on the roof again, run that second line and get your moneys worth out of that DVR.

Good Luck.

Bingo! It was a bad exterior coax. Fortunately I had an extra run from an OTA install I was going to do.

Thanks eakes!!! :D

I agree.... Check the ground block or barrel connectors for corrosion. (Water) Check for dog bits or any animal bits... Just some simple ideas that make equipment not work.
