Hey, i was wondering if there was any information on when Directv will begin offering Local Channels for the Montgomery Alabama Market? I have Dish Network and have began to become dissatisfied with them but i'm waiting till Directv offers local channels here before i make the change. Any information would be appreciated.

I have always wondered why Directv does not offer locals in Montgomery as well. My parents live down there. They bought a high def TV and I was going to help them get Directv, but then realized they did not do Montgomery locals at all. They ended up going with cable.
It definitely cost Directv some business.

no, only way i can get local channels is by antenna but most of them not very well, thats why i have them on dish network, you figure directv would add our locals soon but i havent heard anything.
Heck, even Dothan has local channels available, and not Montgomery. The Montgomery market is certainly a heck of a lot larger than Dothan.

i cannot even begin to imagine why they don't offer local channels yet in montgomery. it is almost as if they are content with ignoring that market.

I'm wondering if it has anything to do with with either contracts with local channels or number of subscribers in the area?

I was told a while back by a DirecTV installer that his company got word that they would be handling the installs for the Columbus, GA SD-LIL rollout... and that Albany, GA and Montgomery, AL SD-LIL would be coming around the same time.
He later said that they were delayed... and so far, no go on either three.
Hopefully it's still coming...

I live in Luverne, Alabama and stay in contact with all four of the major networks in Montgomery, WCOV-20-FOX, WNCF-32-ABC, WSFA-12-NBC and WAKA-8-CBS. I generally call them about every 2-3 months and it is always the same ole story.
Supposedly they gave DirecTV the go ahead before Dish Network. DirecTV came down, did whatever it is they do to get approval and that was the last the stations heard from them. Dish moved forward and DirecTV has done nothing. According to all of the stations they can't seem to find out why DirecTV has never done anything. Of course I don't know if I am getting the truth, but with all of them telling me basically the same thing, I figure it must be correct.
We get NBC-HD and CBS-HD OTA, but FOX and ABC are still minimal power. All they tell me about going full power is that it will be sometime between now and February 2009... most likely a month or two before then. These are small stations and despite grants they still struggle with the cost of upgrades.
Since FOX will be on the same tower as NBC and ABC will be basically the same location as CBS, we should be able to get them OTA HD when they go full power. We plan to switch to DirecTV at that time.
What would be nice is Dish or DirecTV offering HD locals for Montgomery, but it seems we are always last for everything.

yeah i wish for HD locals aswell but im sure that wont happen for a very long time, i just want the SD locals for the time being, thats basically what i'm waiting for before i make the switch from Dish to Directv. Here's hoping they add our locals soon.

If I remember correctly, no one really know what, or when, certain local channels will be activated. It's a guessing game. I may be wrong.

Nothing here... it's not the last minute just yet. It will probably be February 1. (sarcastically speaking)
