How many of you will order 921 right away and how many will order a little later?

Can't afford a potential $1000-1200 receiver as much as I'd love to have it.

I have 2 6000s and an OTA HDPVR (PC with software). I will wait to get the 921 until I see the $$ and if it works well or not. Plus I do not want to spend that much $$ on Dish right now without knowing what they are going to offer in the HDTV department. I am ready for a 921, I added a switch 64 so I have the connections for it, just need Dish to convince me that it will be a good investment.

Maybe the new CableVision HD service will be a bit more affordable, they are supposed to come out with an HD pvr unit if I am not mistaken.

None of the above, I'm still not sure what I'm doing yet.
I might purchase one, I might not, time will tell. :)

On the list for 2, will sell (ebay) or trade in my 6000 and 721 to help offset the cost.

Admin Hat Off...
I must again mention that while DishDepot donates prizes to us for our contests they do not financially support the site at all.
With that being said...
I have purchased allmost all of my Dish Equipment from Markand have been VERY happy with the service I have received. Yes I may have paid a few more $$$ more but those few bucks gave me peace of mind. So in my opinion it was money well spent.
I know many Dish Retailers must pay COD for new receivers so Mark charging a $50 non refundable deposit is not a big deal to me.
Dishdepot is the ONLY online retailer who is taking pre orders for the 921 at the moment, if anyone knows other places taking orders then by all means post the details here.
I do wish some things were etched further in stone such as a final price and features list. Its hard to say you want one when you don't know what the thing will cost.
Last year the word was the 921 would be close to $2000, no people are saying it will be $999 others are saying it will be $1499, and others are saying $1299. There is way to much variance in the price for my liking. For what its worth no one at Dish Network has ever mentioned a price to me, they just said it will be an expensive unit. What does expensive mean? I don't know.
We have always been retailer friendly here at DBSTalk so if someone else wants to take the risks Mark from DishDepot is then feel free to post the details of your pre order here.
With that being said, I am glad I pre ordered mine! Now I need to get everything needed so I can install a second sw 64 switch. :)
admin hat back on
BTW does anyone think its almost time for another DBSTalk.COM Video news Update? :)

I'm planning on getting one of the first batch, but I'm waiting first to see what the initial price will be. If it is $999, I'm in. If it is $1499 or higher, than I'm not.
It all boils down to price.
Also, other than hard disk size, what do we give up by going with the JVC unit instead of the 921?

The JVC unit won't have the 8VSB capability (local OTA HD tuning) that the 921 will have. That's the big difference I believe.

I heard that the price will be around $1200. I think I'm correct but don't count on me, my source may be wrong too but this is the price that seems just right.
My personal guess is that it will be indeed $1199, not more not less.

Thats a CRAZY Prize, You can buy a 40 inch HDTV from Best Buy for that price now, no reason your tuner should cost as much as the TV.

It would sure help a lot if Dish got around to announcing a price on the 921. But, I bet they are still in negotiations for some of the parts (like the hard drive). If they get the price $999 or less they will sell a bunch... if they get it lower they know sales will take off like a rocket. Nothing like a PVR to lock in a customer for a few years, who would want to change service after spending the $$ on a PVR.

I'm sure they are waiting to see what they can get the hard drive price down to. As drives get bigger and bigger, the cost per GB keeps going down. If the hard drives look like they will drop to $200 per unit vs. the $400 they currently run, then that will probably determine the MSRP.
