Here is my question, why can I not go to the Directv website, go to their guide there, click on the show and watch it on my computer. We know they have the capabilities because they did it with superfan. Why is this not a feature now?? Or maybe it is and I did not know. Does anyone have any info of this being added in the future?? I want to watch the MLB games on my computer so I am thinking about getting a slingbox. Let me know what people's thoughts are.

thanks

Since Slingbox is now owned by Echostar I don't think we will see anything like we did with the Superfan.

It probably has a lot more to do with the fact that MLB sells that service on it's own. (watching games via the net). Then with Slingbox being owned by EchoStar.

well they don't need to use slingbox. Sheesh they dont have to use anything except their own techonology. I mean how were they doing it for the NFL superfan?? Also they could use HAVA if they wanted to, but they don;t need to do that.

Does anyone have a slingbox?? And if so is it workth it??

With the NFL.. it was done in conjuction with SlingMedia
(The same company that built the Slingbox)...

Slingbox will work, as it is completely independent and just talks to the video source and the internet.

But again... the fact that whast was there for SuperFan, and not MLB-EI

Has probably to do with two major differences:
1) MLB has their own very profitable product, to provide video feeds on the net
2) DirecTV does not have an exclusive on the MLB-EI package

Slingbox is definitely worth it. To me, at least.

I agree 100%. I have a sligbox hooked up to my R16, and it's great.

I actually use it INSIDE the house for 90% of the time! I can watch the hockey game on the slingbox on those evenings when there is something else on at the same time that my wife or kids want to watch.

Slingbox is definately worth it!

Absolutely worth it.... I love to use it at work or when travelling. Our family just came back from a vacation and I have 16 month old twins and my daughter loves Dora. Our hotel didn't have it so they used my Slingbox to watch Dora....and I didn't use it at all.

The slingbox is definitely worth it. My husband just finished a 6 month stint in India. He was able to watch our DVR as well as our DVD jukebox in his hotel room. Gotta love that!

thank you all for your info.

I think that I am going to have to get one. Now here is the thing, is there one over another that you would get. I am not worried about HD because really how well does it look on a computer?? Also are they any gotchas I need to know about.

thanks

I own a Slingbox Pro and I simply love it. I am currently sitting in my hotel room across the country away from my system and I can watch either of my DVRs (and I intend to add the H20-600 to it too). Mind you, it isn't HD, but it is my own stuff I am watching and I can get my local news when I'm away...good poop!

I've done 5 consecutive CE night download sessions with Slingbox Solo here, using the CE Slinger program developed by one of our fellow CE'ers...

As one who travels for work, Slingbox working with DirecTV devices has been a very pleasant solution to handle remote access and viewing of the DVR(s).

I have two Slingbox Classic's (the original version) and a Slingbox Pro. All work great, and remotely it doesn't matter which you use. Over the local network (at home) the Pro provides a better picture as it can stream a bit faster, but that doesn't carry over to WAN.

Only gotcha is bandwidth. Upload bandwidth at your house, download bandwidth wherever you are trying to watch. I have rarely had problems.

I will say that even with only 600k upstream coming from the house, the Slingbox is quite watchable. Certainly not to be confused with HD but if you're on the road it's great.

Okay, I live on the East Coast so when I say "across the country" I mean the West Coast. What does it mean to someone who lives smack dab in the middle?
